Game of Thrones came to an end over two years ago after eight hit seasons. The HBO fantasy epic drew in audiences from around the globe and shot its cast to fame. The fantasy series was created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss and is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels written by George R. R. Martin. The show gained so much popularity throughout its run and as a result HBO has begun planning a number of spin-offs. However, one of them has just been axed by the broadcaster.
Game of Thrones’ spin-off series Flea Bottom has been cancelled by HBO.
The fantasy series was set to give an insight into life in the King’s Landing slum.
Flea Bottom was the place of origin for Ser Davos Seaworth, Gendry Baratheon and brother of the Night’s Watch, Karl Tanner.
The production was in the early stages of development, alongside other Game of Thrones spin-offs 9 Voyages and 10,000 Ships.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news that Flea Bottom won’t be moving forward.
However it’s not all bad news, as the publication also revealed that HBO Max is now developing three animated Game of Thrones spinoffs for the streaming service.
Upon hearing the news about Flea Bottom, gutted fans quickly took to Twitter to share their upset at the axing of the series.
One furious viewer wrote: “Game of Thrones spinoff cancelled? WTF.”
“Wtf no,” another Game of Thrones fan posted, reacting to the axing.
However, not everyone was so disappointed with the cancelation news, as some fans suggested there were too many spin-offs in the works anyway.
One Twitter user wrote: “All spin-offs of Game of Thrones are a bad idea at this point. It’s dead.”
“Tbh Fleabottom seemed like a flop concept from the get go,” a second fan agreed.
“The #GameOfThrones Flea Bottom series has been scrapped. Which is good, because it was a dumb concept for a series, anyway,” another added.
However, there is another Game of Thrones spin-off on the horizon that fans of the series can look forward to.
Prequel series House of the Dragon is set to be released next year.
Set before the events of Game of Thrones, the series will tell the story of Daenerys’ ancestors, chronicling the downfall of House Targaryen.
The production boasts an impressive cast of Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Olivia Cooke, Graham McTavish, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans.
House of the Dragon is set to have 10 episodes in the first season on the show.
As for the talent behind the camera, Miguel Sapochnik is the House of the Dragon showrunner.
Miguel already has a Game of Thrones link, having directed the episodes Hardhome and Battle of the Bastards in the hit HBO series.
Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
