Netflix dropped its International Emmy-winning crime drama Delhi Crime recently with the show focusing on a new crime based on real-life events.
The second outing has proved to be just as gripping as the initial run with the show getting an 80 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score is 94 percent.
Will Delhi Crime have a season 3?
At the moment, there is no season three of Delhi Crime with Netflix yet to confirm a renewal.
Additionally, it may be far too early for a renewal after season two dropped on August 26 with the entire series being made available in one go.
With Netflix under intense scrutiny this year, the streaming platform will be looking carefully at the audience figures for Delhi Crime over a period of time before making any firm decisions.
Express.co.uk will update this article when more information is available about a renewal.
There was a significant gap between the first and second outings after the initial series landed on Netflix in 2019 with the follow up only coming out in 2022, which may be down the coronavirus pandemic.
Season two was shorter than the first outing, which again may have been down to the pandemic with restraints in place on filming.
Either way, fans will be getting the entire season in one go to binge if series three does go ahead.
So, if Netflix does green light Delhi Crime, there could be a wait for fans as the new story is thrashed out.
What will happen in Delhi Crime season 3?
Despite not officially getting a renewal, Delhi Crime’s director Tanuj Chopra speculated about where the show could go next, saying the team would be looking at more real-life cases in the Indian city.
He told the India Times: “We always talk about what would make a good case… I think something that features another side of Delhi, which we haven’t explored. “Something that happened on the bus or on the streets. It would be interesting to see a case involving the higher side of Delhi.”
From his words, Chopra is seeking to represent a very different side of crime involving a different class of people which could shift the focus more onto politics or corruption.
While writer Sudhanshu Saria told The Hindu in 2021 how he was “launching into the screenplay for Delhi Crime” after he was drafted in to work on season three.
He told the outlet: “Then last October, the producers of Netflix’s Delhi Crime reached out and were keen on having me on board for season three.
“I don’t think two shows at a time is a good idea and I was scared when I took it on, but they just beautifully dovetailed around each other.”
Judging by his words, fans could actually be getting the third season after all with Netflix yet to officially make the announcement.
Who will be in the cast of Delhi Crime season 3?
The main cast is expected to be returning for season three led by Shefali Shah as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi IPS.
Joining her will be Rajesh Tailang as Inspector Bhupendra Singh, Rasika Dugal as Neeti Singh IPS, and Adil Hussain as Kumar Vijay (CP).
Along with the core cast, there will be new characters as the police officers take on this new case and criminals.
Season two saw several new cast members joining the action including Tillotama Shome as Lata Solanki/Karishma and Danish Husain as Advocate Vineet Singh.
