PETE Davidson has made a name for himself as a comedian since first appearing on Saturday Night Live in 2014.
But behind the laughs, Pete and his family suffered a tragedy with the death of his father Scott.
Who was Pete Davidson's dad Scott Davidson?
Pete was born in November 1993 to parents Amy and Scott in Staten Island, New York.
His father was a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department at the time of the September 11 attacks, aged just 33.
Before joining the fire department in 1994, Scott graduated from the College of Staten Island where he received a bachelor's degree in history, and in the early days of his career, he served as a basketball coach.
Scott had a lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter, and often said it was the "greatest job in America."
What was Scott Davidson's cause of death?
Scott was last seen running up the stairs of the Marriott World Trade Centre hotel on 9/11 just minutes before the second Twin Tower collapsed and was later confirmed dead.
Pete was just seven years old at the time of his father's passing, which had a devastating impact on his mental health.
Pete later revealed that he would rip his hair out to make himself bald, and he struggled with suicidal thoughts right through his teenage years.
What has Pete Davidson said about his dad?
The comedian revealed that his movie, The King Of Staten Island, which explores his upbringing on the island, helped him to come to terms with his father's passing.
Speaking to Sky News, Pete said: "As someone who's open with struggles and issues, I think I'm always learning and growing. Making this film allowed me to grow more as a person."
He added: "One of the main reasons why I wanted to make this movie and tell this story was because I wanted this chapter in my life to be closed.
"Not forgotten, but I wanted to be able to move on and show that it's okay to have issues and it's okay to struggle and that you're not alone and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel."
The comedian has also revealed that he has his father's badge number, 8418, tattooed on his left arm.
In honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Pete and fellow comedian Jon Stewart, along with others, will host a comedy show to raise money for charities benefitting victims of the terrorist attack and their families.
The pair will host NYC Still Rising After 20 Years: A Comedy Celebration at Madison Square Garden on September 12, a day after the attacks' anniversary.
The special aims to honor the city's resilience, according to a statement by John and Pete.
Who is Pete Davidson's mom Amy Waters Davidson?
Amy Waters Davidson is Pete Davidson's mom.
Amy, who is mostly of Irish ancestry, works as a school nurse at Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, which was attended by Pete himself.
Very little else is known about Amy, who keeps herself largely away from the cameras and instead offers support to her son Pete and daughter Casey as they learn to live without their father.
