Not all celebrity relationships consist of famous duos! Some of America’s favorite celebs are paired off with “regular” individuals, while others fly under the radar with low-key superstars.
It shows that when it comes to Hollywood relationships, both parties don’t need to be on the same level of notoriety to make things work. One such couple is Tina Fey and her long-time husband, Jeff Richmond.
Who is Jeff Richmond?
Jeff Richmond, born Jeffrey Wayne Richmond, is a behind the scenes star in Hollywood. While you may not be able to recognize him in a lineup, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you know his work. Richmond is a producer and composer who has had a hand in some of Hollywood’s best programming since 2006.
Despite being mostly known for his music work, Richmond also has a sole acting credit to his name. Considering Fey’s the mastermind behind 30 Rock it’s no surprise that her husband made his acting debut on the NBC sitcom. Who did he play? Alfonso Disparioso, a recurring character who appeared in seven episodes between 2007 and 2013. He also played an uncredited crewmember in 2006 and a TGS Piano Player in the 2007 episode, The Baby Show.
What shows has Jeff Richmond composed music for?
Richmond, best known for his impressive compositions, has helped create the mood for five projects, many of which his wife also worked on. In 2008, he created the musical score for Michael McCullers, Baby Mama. The romantic comedy has an impressive ensemble including comedic geniuses Fey and Amy Poehler, as well as Alien actress Sigourney Weaver.
He, of course, was the man behind the music for 30 Rock from 2006 to 2013. His compositions can be heard in 129 out of the 138 episodes aired! After rubbing shoulders with the infamous Alec Baldwin for several years, Richmond created an original score for the short, The Parker Tribe in 2015 to keep his skills sharp.
Once Fey’s dramedy, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, was picked up by Netflix in 2015 he was able to get back into the flow. He’s created musical masterpieces throughout the entire run. While working on his wife’s labor of love he also did some work Tracey Wigfield’s Great News. The comedy ran between 2017 and 2018.
What else has Jeff Richmond done?
Richmond also has soundtrack and music department credits under his belt. The unstoppable musician’s most notable projects were done for the infamous Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls, and Maya & Marty.
Richmond isn’t just about music though! He produced several episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and 30 Rock. He also directed nine episodes between both shows as well as a single one for Great News. Richmond is without a doubt a jack-of-all-trades.
It’s clear that the couple that works together stays together! While some couples can’t play nice, these two are a match made in heaven when it comes to producing magic! So, how long have the talented duo been together?
How did Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond meet?
Richmond surprisingly crossed paths with his future wife and Poehler at the same time. He met them back in 1993 at the Del Close’s ImprovOlympic Theater. At the time Richmond was an in-house pianist and as such he often witnessed many auditions. He recognized the incredible talent in both Fey and Poehler immediately!
They started spending time together off stage and one thing led to another. In Richmond words, Fey fell for him because, “I was the only one who was getting paid back then, so I could pick up the check.” It definitely isn’t the most romantic one-liner, but no matter how they started they are still going strong. Fey moved from Chicago to New York in 1997 to pursue work with Saturday Night Live as a writer. Richmond followed suit to take the head position in their music department.
The talented duo kept in contact and by 2001 they were married! They currently have two daughters, Alice and Penelope, and recently tackled their biggest mutual goal.

Big dreams start with little steps! Both Fey and Richmond always knew they wanted to make an impact on the Broadway circuit and the finally got their shot last year. After 20 years of toiling away in Hollywood, the dedicated couple created their first theatrical masterpiece, Mean Girls. It was Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book, Queen Bees & Wannabes that the pair credits for their inspiration.
Both of them recognized the potential for it to be a movie and eventually started writing a screenplay. Richmond, of course, tackled musical challenges put forth by his wife. After pouring in lots of effort and having tons of fun along the way, the show was finally released and it blew expectations out of the water. Despite being their first theatre foray, it was up for 12 Tonys, including Best Musical and awards for Fey’s fantastic writing and Richmond’s outstanding score. It also pulled in $1.5 million weekly for quite sometime after its debut.
Now that their first mutual Broadway masterpiece is complete, what’s next? Hopefully, they will continue to do more Broadway work and fulfill their dreams as one of Hollywood’s most perfect couples
