Walford in amazement as iconic celebrity makes EastEnders debut

A massive global occasion brings a huge celebrity name to EastEnders in upcoming episodes as Eurovision fever grips Walford.

Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) is planning a Eurovision-themed birthday party, and Rocky (Brian Conley) decides to go all out to make the event something Kathy will never forget.

He makes a phone call to an old contact and keeps his fingers crossed that the mystery person will be able to turn up.

And, despite it possibly being her busiest weekend in the showbiz calendar, she does.

As Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) offers to take to the stage to keep everyone entertained her services are no longer needed and she’s stopped in her tracks by the arrival of none other than Cheryl Baker of Bucks Fizz.

Cheryl is total Eurovision royalty, having won the contest in 1981 along with band-mates Bobby G, Jay Aston and Mike Nolan, with the once heard never forgotten hit Making Your Mind Up.

The news of Cheryl’s appearance in Albert Square was announced last month and pictures that were released at the time show her alongside Kathy, Rocky, Harvey (Ross Boatman) and Jean, who are all dressed in the famous brightly coloured costumes Bucks Fizz wore for their winning Eurovision appearance.

‘I was so thrilled to be asked to take part in an episode of EastEnders. It’s a British institution, for goodness sake!’ Cheryl commented when her appearance was announced.

‘As a real-life “EastEnder,” I have loved the show since day one and I literally can’t wipe the smile from my face.’

And as the party gets into full swing at the Prince Albert, she won’t be the only one.
