Vikings: Amazon Prime release trailer for final season
WARNING: This story contains spoilers for Vikings season 6 part 2
Vikings season six, part two is the final instalment of the historical drama and some loose ends have been tied up. The 10 episodes landed at the same time today, December 30, and fans have already binged their way through most of the episodes. At the start of the series, viewers discovered what happened to King Harald (played by Peter Franzén) following the Rus battle.
Who let King Harald escape?
The final episodes of the Vikings saga have arrived and fans discovered early on how King Harald survived the Rus battle.
He had been injured in the fight against Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) and Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky), and fans had presumed him dead.
At the start of the second half of season six, fans learned how Harald had been taken captive by Oleg’s army.
He, along with King Olaf (Steven Berkoff), were held as prisoners while Oleg decided their fate.
While he sentenced Olaf to death, he said he was willing to spare Harald’s life, and he remained in prison while Olaf was killed.

Oleg had asked his nephew Igor (Oran Glynn O’Donovan) to burn Olaf alive in front of the townsfolk, and he reluctantly obeyed the order.
When Ivar and his men returned from the event, they discovered Harald was missing from his cell, and Ivar asked who set him free.
The answer does not seem to be explicitly revealed in the final episodes, but there are a number of suspects for who it could be.
When Harald returned to Kattegat after being freed, he arrived with a man he refers to as ‘Skane’, who acted as his aid.
His character ended up being killed by Erik (Eric Johnson), who had tricked him into a plot to take down Harald.
There is also a chance he was set free by one of the men who scoped out Kattegat and killed the guard so Harald could enter safely.
Harald could have even escaped himself without any support if he was able to find a way to remove his shackles.
Alternatively, there is a possibility King Olaf had helped him loosen his shackles enough to be able to make an escape, while Olaf was taken away to be killed.
Some of Ivar’s men had been in the area when Ivar came back to discover Harald missing, so one of them may have had a change of heart.
There would be nothing unusual about one of Ivar’s own supporters turning on him to help King Harald return to Kattegat.

When Harald arrived back in Kattegat, Gunnhild (Ragga Ragnars) and Ingrid (Lucy Martin) were competing for the role of Queen.
He declared that before the battle he had been crowned King, and his role still stood, so the vote was called off.
Harald asked Gunnhild and Ingrid, who were the former wives of Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) to marry him so they could rule together.
Fans of Harald’s character had been scared he would not make it through to the final season, as they believed he had died in the battle.
The star is on Instagram and he shared a poster for the final episodes, asking fans if they were ready for the final instalment.
One fan replied: “No I’m definitely not, I’m just afraid my favourite characters, yours included, won’t make it.”
Another fan said: “Finally he becomes what he wanted to be after all those years, and not even a week later the m**** dies on the battlefield.”
They were therefore delighted to discover his character was alive and had managed to worm his way back to Kattegat.
Filming for the final episodes took place two years ago, so viewers have been waiting a long time to find out Harald’s fate.
The show’s creator, Michael Hirst, previously revealed he had planned to kill off Harald early on, but as Franzén played the part so well, he had survived until the final episodes.
