Ahead of King Charles’ upcoming Coronation on Saturday, This Morning got into the spirit of the occasion with a visit to the Coronation Street set on Friday.
Broadcasting live from the iconic set in Manchester, hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary led the proceedings by speaking to various members of the cast, including cobbles favourites such as Bill Roache, Barbara Knox, Sally Dynevor and Michael Le Vell.
Alongside light hearted interviews with the stars, viewers at home were due to be treated to a whirlwind masterclass by chef Phil Vickery on how to rustle up the perfect party food ahead of the long bank holiday weekend.
Joined by Corrie stars Julia Goulding and Samia Longchambon, the stars were intently watching the cooking take place, armed with umbrellas as clouds loomed overhead.
Yet just as Phil was getting into the swing of discussing the perfect recipes to whip up a few afternoon tea snacks for a street party outside of the iconic Roy’s Rolls exterior, the show was forced to come to an abrupt halt as it began to rain heavily.
“Of course, it’s raining in Manchester, oh my fringe!” Quipped Samia as she ducked for cover beneath her hands, before Phil attempted to help by shielding her hair with a tea towel.
Host Alison meanwhile, couldn’t hide her amusement as she laughed: “It’s actually chucking it down!”
Prompting Phil to joke: “It’s not raining, it’s not raining just keep going.”
Despite a momentary attempt to salvage the situation, the watery deluge continued prompting Dermot to swiftly run off to grab some umbrellas for the stars to shield under.
Sadly, the situation soon worsened even further, with the rain turning to hail in a mere matter of seconds, meaning the segment had to be halted while the cast and crew retreated inside to avoid the downpour.
Ahead of the decision to end the segment, Dermot shouted: “This is so unfair.”
Before Alison replied: “You know what, the heavens have opened so you know what we’re going to do? We’re going to go for a break.”
When the show returned after a short break, filming had been resumed from inside the safety of the Rovers Return pub, but all of the stars were looking a little worse for wear – as they recovered from the soggy deluge moments before.
Commenting on what just happened, Alison said: “I look like a drowned rat.”
Her co-star then replied: “It started to spit a little bit and we were like, ‘well, it’s going to be fine’ then four minutes later.”
The show then cut to a clip of the street where the party had been taking place earlier in the programme, and revealed that all the guests had left leaving only the crew to try and salvage the party decorations.
