There are a lot of similarities between Princess Eugenie and Meghan Markle’s weddings. For one, both ceremonies took place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. And, the brides both wore structured, off-the-shoulder gowns. That said, the most surprising similarity between Princess Eugenie and Meghan Markle’s weddings is their tiaras.
We share more about Princess Eugenie’s wedding tiara and how it compared to the one Meghan Markle wore on her royal wedding day, ahead.

Princess Eugenie’s wedding tiara
Many thought Princess Eugenie would walk down the aisle in the York Tiara. After all, she is the Princess of York, and it’s what her mother, Sarah Ferguson wore on her wedding day in 1986. However, Princess Eugenie surprised us all this morning with the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara. The antique crown jewel was created in 1919 by Boucheron for Mrs. Greville, a close friend of Queen Mary’s.
The tiara features a kokoshnik design, which was popular in the Russian Imperial Court. It features rose cut pavé diamonds set in platinum, with six emeralds on the sides and a stunning oval-shaped emerald stone in the middle. Princess Eugenie paired her royal wedding tiara with emerald and diamond drop earrings — a gift from her new husband, Jack Brooksbank — and her diamond and pink padparadscha sapphire engagement ring, of course.
How did the royal family get their hands on Mrs. Greville’s tiara? She passed it — along with several other jewels — down to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and it has stayed in the royal family ever since.

Meghan Markle’s wedding tiara
On her royal wedding day, Meghan Markle became a princess when she stepped out in Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau Tiara. While many thought the Duchess of Sussex would wear one of Princess Diana’s favorite tiaras or even the Spencer Tiara — which hasn’t been seen since before Princess Diana’s passing — she surprised everyone with the simple, yet elegant headband-like dazzler.
Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau Tiara features diamonds and platinum separated in 11 different sections. Each section has interlaced ovals and pavé set diamonds, similar to the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara. The center features a detachable brooch that is occasionally swapped out for a sapphire stone.
The similarities between Princess Eugenie and Meghan Markle’s wedding tiaras
Like Princess Eugenie, Meghan Markle wowed royal family fans when she stepped out in her Diamond Bandeau Tiara. Royal wedding experts had predicted that both brides would wear something linked to their mother (or, in Meghan Markle’s case: Princess Diana) and the headband-like tiaras were not even part of the speculations.
Both the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara and Diamond Bandeau Tiara are linked to Queen Mary. One belonged to her and the other belonged to her close friend, Mrs. Greville. They both feature a large, oval stone in the center, pavé set diamonds, platinum, and are similar in shape. These details compared with the other royal wedding similarities has us wondering: Was Meghan Markle Princess Eugenie’s wedding inspiration?
