The holiday season is finally here! With Thanksgiving just a day away, many viewers are watching the holiday-inspired episodes of their favorite shows. Find out which Thanksgiving episodes of Friends, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, House, and This is Us are the most popular to tune into over the Thanksgiving holiday.
These are the most-searched-for shows on Thanksgiving
Using data from IMDb and TV Listings, Dish reports half of the United States searches for episodes of Friends to watch over Thanksgiving. Twenty-five states including Texas, California, Illinois, and New Hampshire rank amongst those searching for Thanksgiving episodes of Friends. After all, there are 10 to choose from.
This is Us is the second-most-searched show on Thanksgiving. The viewers looking to stream the family-oriented NBC series are primarily on the east coast, from Maine down to Georgia. Louisiana’s residents are also turning to This is Us on Thanksgiving.
Shockingly, only 2 states — Ohio and Virginia — are searching for Seinfeld episodes to watch on Thanksgiving. For Vermont, only episodes of House will do on Turkey Day.
A ranking of the ‘Friends’ Thanksgiving episodes
In addition to being the most-searched-for show on Thanksgiving, all 10 of the Friends Thanksgiving episodes made the most-watched list. In first place is “The One with the List,” wherein Ross (David Schwimmer) comprises a list of Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) flaws. That episode has over 32.9 million viewers.
“The One With the Football” is the second-most-watched Thanksgiving episode of Friends, but it ranks in third place on Dish’s list of most-watched with 29.3 million viewers. Sweeping fourth through tenth place are: “The One with Chandler in a Box,” “The One with Rachel’s Other Sister,” “The One With the Rumor,” “The One with All the Thanksgivings,” “The One Where Underdog Gets Away,” “The One with the Late Thanksgiving,” and “The One Where Ross Got High.”
“The One Where Chandler Doesn’t Like Dogs” ranks in twelfth place with 16.57 million viewers.
The most-watched Thanksgiving episode of ‘Seinfeld’
Breaking up the list of most-watched Friends episodes is “The Mom and Pop Store.” This Seinfeld episode sits in second place with 32.4 million viewers on Thanksgiving.
The episode guest-stars Jon Voight, who was rumored to have owned the car George (Jason Alexander) purchased. Meanwhile, Kramer (Michael Richards) attempted to have Jerry’s (Jerry Seinfeld) shoes repaired at a “Mom and Pop” shop, leaving him with nothing but cowboy boots to wear for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The most-watched Thanksgiving episode of ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Ranking in eleventh place is “The Big Bang Theory: The Thanksgiving Decoupling” with 18.94 million viewers. The episode most notably features Sheldon (Jim Parsons) begrudgingly attending Thanksgiving at the Wolowitz household while Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) deal with her accidental marriage to Zack Johnson (Brian Thomas Smith).
Like so many of these holiday-themed episodes, the heartwarming theme of friendship brings everyone together in the end.
‘House,’ ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ and ‘This is Us’ Thanksgiving episodes also made the list
House, How I Met Your Mother, and This is Us round out the list of most-watched television shows during the Thanksgiving holiday. Ironically, each of the series’s holiday episodes touch on some pretty heavy topics.
House‘s “Ignorance Is Bliss” highlights a patient with depression and suicidal thoughts; How I Met Your Mother‘s “Belly Full of Turkey” touches on raising a family; and This is Us‘s “Pilgrim Rick” showcases the importance of tradition.
While these episodes might feature complicated plots, they are streamed millions of times on Thanksgiving because viewers feel connected to them.
Whether you’re a Friends fanatic or more of a How I Met Your Mother streamer, Thanksgiving is the time to watch throwback television! Seven out of the 15 episodes mentioned aired in the 1990s, while the remaining six aired in the 2000s.
Enjoy these Thanksgiving episodes of your favorite shows this holiday.
