The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons has opened up about having to power through his cat allergies in a classic episode of the smash-hit sitcom.
The actor – who famously played Sheldon Cooper on the show – recalled the moment when his character bought a whole load of cats in The Zazzy Substitution (Season four, episode three) despite the fact Jim is allergic to them.
Speaking about the experience on Thursday’s The Ellen DeGeneres, the 47-year-old recalled: ‘There was one time very early on in Big Bang where they were tossing around an idea for a script and they came up and asked me, “Are you allergic to cats by any chance?”
‘And I said, “Yeah I am, my eyes get puffy and whatever.” About a week later, the script showed up with a box of Claritin and was like well, we’re going to do one where you’re surrounded by cats the whole episode.’
He laughed: ‘I have gone through that. But I was fine, I just didn’t touch my face.’
Host Ellen couldn’t hide her amusement as she responded: ‘Wow, I can’t believe they knew you were allergic to cats and wrote an episode where you are surrounded by cats.’
For those who don’t remember, The Zazzy Substitution saw Sheldon dealing badly with his separation from his ‘friend who is a girl and friend but not his girlfriend’ Amy Farrah-Fowler (Mayim Bialik).
He then decided to buy numerous cats including Zazzles in order to lift his spirits.
However, one fan recently noticed a huge plot hole about that episode seeing as Sheldon is meant to suffer from asthma and not live with cats.
The Big Bang Theory might be over by Jim and former co-star Mayim are still working together as he produced her new sitcom, Call Me Kat.
