Greg Wise fears he’ll break down sobbing while performing a tribute to his tragic “disco diva” sister on Saturday's Strictly Come Dancing.

The actor, 55, says his Couple’s Choice dance is for his film executive sibling Clare, killed by bone cancer in 2016 aged 51 – and buried in a glitterball coffin to the sound of a Gloria Gayner track.

Greg, who shares two kids with his actress wife Emma Thompson, 62, said about feeling Clare’s ghost guiding him through the BBC One show: “We are doing our Couple’s Choice this week. And this is the reason I am on Strictly – for my disco diva sister, Clare.

“I was her 24/7 carer for the last months of her life, as she was dying, at 51, from bone cancer.

“She left us in a glitterball coffin to the banging sounds of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive.

“She has her hand at the small of my back, now, guiding, enthusing, chiding.

“This is her dance. And her chance to see her little brother in a disco-frenzy.”

Greg added he will dance with pro partner Karen Hauer, 39, to a version of Gordon Lightfoot’s If You Could Read My Mind, as it is “about lost love, and the sadness of the unattainable”.

The Crown actor added: “But within this feeling of loss, within our dance, is an explosive meeting, as if in a ghostly dream, coming together and moulding, celebrating, and finally parting.

“I hope I do it without sobbing. Or falling over.”
