Strictly ‘plan to cast celebrity couple in 2023 series with two stars already in running’

Strictly Come Dancing bosses are reportedly looking to cast a celebrity couple for the 2023 edition of the show, with Emma and Matt Willis said to be the most likely choice.

Following the 2022 Strictly final, which saw presenter and cameraman Hamza Yassin take home the Glitterball trophy, BBC bosses are already on the search for next year's competitors.

And now it has been reported that bosses are on the lookout for a celebrity couple to join the show's 2023 lineup.

It has also been claimed that Emma, 46, and Matt, 39, are "in the running" for the upcoming series and that they were reportedly in negotiations to appear in this year's series, before having to pull out.

A source told The Sun: "Strictly are desperate to get a celebrity couple on the show and Emma and Matt were in negotiations for the last series. It was virtually a done deal but then Matt was cast in the theatre show 2:22 A Ghost Story and they had to back out.

"Strictly would love to have them back on board for next year’s show and Emma and Matt have said if they can make it work they would jump at the chance.

"Bosses on the show are always looking at ways to keep the format fresh and they loved the idea of having a celebrity couple competing against one another."

They added that "Matt and Emma are very much in the running" but if it can't work, "other famous partnerships" will be looked at for the show.

OK! has contacted both BBC and Emma and Matt's representatives for comment.

Busted star Matt and TV presenter Emma have been married for 14 years, and share three children together, Isabelle, 13, Ace, ten and Trixie, six.

Last year, Matt spoke exclusively to OK! about his marriage, telling us: "We’ve been together for 17 years and we met when I was 21 – I’m now 38, so I’m very different to the person I was then.

"But I had a very good guide in Emma. She’s a little bit older than me, so she’d been there and done that, and she was exactly the influence I needed at that time in my life."
