Strictly Come Dancing star Hamza Yassin was warming up while the bottom two couples were declared. The favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy was not taking anything for granted before last Saturday’s results show. He shared his concerns with professional partner Jowita Przystał on It Takes Two on Thrusday.

The presenter of the Strictly spin-off show Janette Manrara quizzed the Countryfile star on his emotions.

She said: “You got a 36 which is a really good score but you were second from the bottom which is probably one of the lowest spots you’ve ever been so far in the competition.

“Were you nervous the red light was coming?”

The wildlife cameraman did not hold back in opening up about his feelings as Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman revealed the fate of the celebrity hopefuls.

He replied: “Absolutely, because everyone was just so good this year. Normally four nines across the board is just perfect.

“People are wanting those sorts of numbers, but yes I certainly felt the pressure.”

Hamza added: “I kind of gave Jowita a little hug and said, ‘Yeah let’s go. Let’s do this. Let’s do the dance off’.”

The popular personality has not yet had the dreaded red light shine on him yet, but he told BBC Two viewers: “I was limbering up.”

Both professionals leaned on their dancing experience and shared a joke about his strong mentality.

Janette said “he was there” and pointed to her head, in praise of Hamza’s positive character, but Jowita has faith in their ability.

“We still had a chance”, Jowita added and the It Takes Two host agreed and gave Hamza some advice.

“It isn’t over until it’s over”, the former Strictly performer insisted to the pair.

Over recent weeks Hamza has emerged as the clear favourite to be crowned the ballroom champion this year.

His performances have wowed judges throughout the competition and have seen the CBBC star bring new ideas to the glitzy BBC showpiece.

Last week he and Jowita performed their Couples’ Choice to Lion King’s He Lives In You.

The dance was inspired by Hamza’s African heritage and he reflected on the importance of the performance to him.

Hamza said the dance “was to celebrate my three mothers as I call them. Mother Nature, Mother Africa and my mother.”

He continued: “It was just a case of going out there and enjoying it, it was a lot of passion and a lot of emotion.

“Jowita danced her heart out that night and we went out there with no expectations.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen and it was the first time ever for Strictly to have Afro-fusion on there and represent the continent of Africa where I’m from.”
