Spoilers: Toyah’s fate sealed in intense Coronation Street courtroom scenes?

At the beginning of tonight’s Coronation Street Leanne (Jane Danson) begged Toyah (Georgia Taylor) not to say something she might regret when she took the stand in her trial.

Following Toyah’s revelation to her sister in the previous episode that, for a split second, she had wanted Imran (Charlie De Melo) dead, Leanne knew that Toyah was on the brink of saying something that could land her in prison. Leanne spoke to Toyah’s barrister, who agreed that it might be better not to call Toyah to testify at all.

The trial got underway and Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) was the first to give evidence, saying that he’d heard Toyah say that she wanted to kill her husband – a remark which Toyah’s barrister handled easily.

When Imran’s mother Saira (Kim Vithana) took the stand, she told the court that she’d always found Toyah ‘Cold, selfish and manipulative, particularly towards my son.’ She also mentioned that she’d seen Toyah kissing Spider (Martin Hancock).

Again, Toyah’s brief was easily able to handle these accusations when she said that Saira had hardly ever seen Toyah and Imran together because he’d asked her to stay away.

An emotional Kelly (Millie Gibson) was the last person to be called for the prosecution, and then Leanne took the stand to defend her sister. Finally Toyah decided to testify herself. This could have been the moment that sealed her fate either way. Would she confess everything?

In the end, no, she didn’t. She lied that she hadn’t heard Imran’s confession until after he was dead, and the events immediately before the crash were just a blur. She kept to her story even under questioning.

Toyah now awaits the jury’s verdict, but the fact that the trial looked like it had gone more in her favour brought her no relief. She still has Imran’s death on her conscience, she told Leanne:

‘He’s dead, I killed him, and I have to live with that forever.’
