Spluttering Eamonn Holmes ‘probably suffering from coronavirus’ on This Morning

This Morning host Eamonn Holmes raised concerns that his cold may actually be the deadly coronavirus that is currently wreaking havoc in China.

The 60-year-old was on today's show with wife Ruth Langsford, when they spoke to medical experts about a number of ailments.

But Eamonn was particularly interested in the coronavirus, which has already killed more than 25 people in China.

Grasping at his chest and coughing, Eamonn suggested: "I probably am suffering from coronavirus right now."

With travel restrictions in place in China and people desperately stocking up on face masks to stop the spread, let's hope for Ruth's sake that he's just got a common cold.

So far, the coronavirus has spread across China and to Japan, Thailand and the US – with famous landmarks like the Forbidden City in Beijing and sections of the Great Wall being shut off.

The current outbreak started in the Chinese city of Wuhan, with fears that there may be close to 9,700 patients.

It causes fly-like symptoms, as well as breathlessness and fever, but can cause pneumonia in extreme cases.

However, most of the time, the coronavirus is nothing to get too concerned about – strains of it cause the common cold.

The worrying new strain – 2019-nCoV – is thought to have originated at a seafood market in Wuhan, which also sold processed and live meat including camels, foxes, rats and donkeys.

It's not the first time coronavirus has claimed numerous victims though, with the virus causing an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome in the early 2000s which killed 774 people in dozens of countries.
