Sam abandons son Ricky in EastEnders as he faces police over Lily's pregnancy?

EastEnders’ Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) is set to be jetting off into the sunset with childhood sweetheart Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen) as they depart the square for Germany in the coming days.

But when son Ricky Jnr (Frankie Day) reveals that he has gotten 12-year-old Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) pregnant, she can’t possibly be planning to leave.

Or can she?

After a visit from Lily warning him that the police want to speak to him, Ricky Jnr makes a run for it, bumping into Sam as he goes and, terrified, he blurts out the truth.

Sam, however, is so wrapped up in worrying about how she’s going to tell her son that she’s leaving him behind again as she moves abroad, that she misses her chance to console him and instead launches into a confession of her own.

Ricky Jnr is left heartbroken and terrified to discover that his mum plans to leave him when he needs her most.

Sam is renowned for being selfish, and has previously abandoned Ricky Jnr for years at a time, but surely even she couldn’t sink so low as to move abroad while her son faces criminal charges?

Will Sam take the opportunity of a new life with Ricky, or will she prove once and for all that her loyalties lie with her family?
