She will appear from Monday to Wednesday on the sofa with Dan Walker. The 50-year-old has been filling in for regular hosts on a freelance basis since November 2011. She also presents sports bulletins.

Sally said: “It’s an honour to take the reins from Louise and be part of the UK’s most-watched breakfast show.”

Born in Birkenhead, she started her career at BBC Radio Merseyside.

Last year, she followed footballer Marcus Rashford’s campaign to end UK child poverty, winning scoop of the year at the 2021 Royal Television Society Journalism Awards.

Dan tweeted: “I am so happy for Sally. She is a brilliant presenter, massively popular with the team, an excellent journalist and a great friend.”

Louise left last month after 20 years.
