On Monday, the ITV series aired a special episode where veteran panellists sat down for a chat with some of the show’s newest stars. Penny Lancaster became a Loose Women panellist in 2014 and joined Jane Moore to take a look back at her time on the show. During the discussion, Rod Stewart’s wife opened up on her marriage with the musician.
Speaking about the move from guest to panellist, Penny said: “I felt really honoured actually to be asked and to have a more permanent position on the seats.
“You can discuss anything and you knew that the viewers at home – people you can relate to and they can relate to you in the sense that I was a mother.
“Just because I’m Rod Stewart’s wife I still go through the same things everyone else goes through on a certain level.”
Penny and Jane took a look at a clip of Rod joining Penny on Loose Women to discuss their journey with IVF.

Penny and Rod share two sons, Alastair born in 2005 and Aiden born in 2011.
Andrea McLean said: “You’ve spoken about your struggles with IVF but Rob we’ve never heard your side of things.
“It’s always interesting to get a male viewpoint on fertility and when you’re struggling. How was it for you?”
“Shall I tell you what it was like?” Rod replied.” Because you know what you have to do.”
“We don’t necessarily need the nuts and bolts if you excuse the phrase,” Andrea joked.
Watching the clip, Penny noted Rod was pulling “his naughty boy expression”.
“Shall I tell them about my sperm?” Rod asked Penny who replied: “Tell them anything you want darling.”
“The process [to have Aiden]…shall I say, Penny?” Rod said in the clip as Penny commented: “I don’t know why he keeps checking with me.”

Rod playfully acted out the IVF process while Penny looked on mortified.
Sharing her thoughts on the past interview, she said: “We’re just one of those couples that share our affection behind closed doors as well as on the other side.
“When you’re in the public eye you don’t know when you’re going to get a private moment so you’re just who you are.
“We never pretend to be anything we’re not and we have a mutual respect and a line we know we wouldn’t pass, although my husband…”

“There was a couple of times there where you thought, ’Is he going to step over that line?’” Jane joked.
Opening up on discussing emotional topics on the show, Penny continued: “I feel safe on the show and when you’re having those conversations and they’re important topics, I don’t ever feel like I need to keep it private or keep it to myself because I feel it will help others.
“If it means me getting upset it hits home how important it is for people to recognise certain implications of the way people behave.
“Things that have happened in the past that are tragic or upsetting have made me the person that I am today.”
