Riverdale: The CW release dramatic episode teaser
Lili Reinhart has spoken exclusively to Express.co.uk about reprising her role as a very different Betty Cooper in the brand new season of Riverdale. Finally back on screens after months of COVID delays, the CW star has shared some surprising details about the series’ unprecedented flash forward.
High School student Betty Cooper (played by Lili Reinhart) is set to take on a completely different role in the brand new season of Riverdale.
Back this week for the premiere of its long awaited fifth instalment, Riverdale was finally able to give Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and the gang a well-deserved senior prom at the end of another crazy year.
Although school is still in session for the start of season five, most of the series will now take place after a massive seven year skip into the cast’s future.
Main cast member Lili Reinhart had previously confirmed Betty will be training with the FBI after the jump, and she revealed more about what that means for the rest of the season when she spoke with Express.co.uk.

Reinhart explained: “She’s gone through some new experiences during the time jump – including her status as an FBI trainee – and it somewhat altered her personality for sure.”
A brand new trailer for the upcoming season has already revealed some dark moments for Betty Cooper.
With the Videotape Killer still at large and Betty’s relationship with Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) in jeopardy, her final year at Riverdale High may be one she’d be better off forgetting.
Taking Betty from her late teens to her mid-20s in a matter of episodes will also undoubtedly take a toll on the tone of season five.

The star continued: “As every other returning character, she became significantly more mature.
“But for her individually it also means she sees her role in Riverdale and her previous/present relationships differently.”
A career with the FBI certainly makes sense for Betty Cooper, as she’s already had a number of run-ins with Riverdale’s most notorious criminals, including her own father, Hal Cooper/The Black Hood (Lochlyn Munro).
However, the new trainee definitely has a struggle ahead of her as she tries to keep her relationships, the trauma of the past five years and her notorious ‘serial killer gene’ in check.

Meanwhile, Lili Reinhart confirmed the exciting new season will have the opportunity to delve into new facets of Archie, Betty, Jughead and Veronica (Camila Mendes) fans haven’t seen before.
The first few episodes will comprise what should have capped off the end of season four before the series was shut down at the start of the global health crisis.
Thankfully, the star assured viewers there are still plenty of ‘new storylines, new interactions and new relationships’ still to come.
She continued: “There were some things we slightly touched previously, but didn’t really explore them in a more profound way, and I guess this season gives an opportunity to do that.
“It’s even more interesting thanks to some new faces entering Riverdale’s world. New characters definitely help shape previously untouched themes.”
Fans have already been devastated by the romantic drama so far, with Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) and Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) threatening to split in this week’s season five premiere.
Now Reinhart has promised more characters will come into the picture later this year, Riverdale’s fifth season has the chance to deliver even more drama than usual in the glamorous Archie Comics revamp.
Riverdale season 5 continues Wednesdays on the CW and the following Thursday on Netflix.
