Piers Morgan slams 'moron' cyclist for breaking social distancing rules

Piers Morgan has slammed a cyclist for breaking social distancing rules during an interview with the Health Minister on today’s Good Morning Britain.

The no non-sense presenter apologised to guest Edward Agar MP as he joined the programme live from outside parliament, as a person on a bike appeared in shot with his phone out – clearly ignoring special government measures.

‘We’ll apologise to you for the complete moron who was cycling right next to you during that interview – you might not have even been aware of it,’ Piers offered.

‘He was ignoring all social distancing rules trying to make a little celebrity of himself.’

Piers scorned: ‘It’s morons like that who are literally costing lives and I just want to say how sorry I am that idiot did that to you during this interview.’

Edward replied: ‘Piers that’s not your fault. I would say we’re standing here and very much observing those social distancing rules.

‘What I would say to that individual and to everyone is I know that this is hard, the stay at home instruction, but it is saving lives.

‘By staying at home we are protecting the NHS, we are saving lives.’

According to the World Health Organisation, individuals can ensure social distancing by maintaining ‘at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing,’ adding that when an infected person coughs or sneezes, they spray small liquid droplets which may contain the virus.

On Tuesday it was reported that another 854 people had died after contracting coronavirus, taking the UK death toll to at least 6,227.

The jump in deaths is the biggest daily increase since the outbreak began, following a rise of 439 deaths on Monday and 621 on Sunday.

The toll was updated after England recorded another 758 deaths, and 74 people were confirmed dead in Scotland. Wales recorded 19 more deaths on Tuesday, while three more people died in Northern Ireland.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
