Paddy McGuinness has shared a welcomed video from the first back back at Top Gear alongside Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris as filming is finally back on track.
Like all TV productions, Top Gear was forced to shut down during the coronavirus pandemic.
But the boys are hitting the road again and Paddy’s got a nifty trick to make sure his co-stars can’t come within a two metre distance.
‘First day back on Top Gear,’ he told his Instagram followers, holding onto a two-meter rod with a boxing glove attached at the end.
‘Got my social distancing pole. Keeping the boys back, two metres.’
The BBC announced last month the motoring programme would be among the first shows to return to filming using the government’s social distance guidelines.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Executive Producers Clare Pizey and Alex Renton explained how the series would return as it gets bumped up to BBC One for the first time.
‘Apart from the obvious challenges of not being able to film abroad at present, a lack of cars being imported from other countries, and different rules applying to Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England, the main challenge is transporting a big crew around the country and finding safe places to stay,’ they told us.
‘We are lucky on Top Gear that most of our filming is outside, and the presenters are generally speaking in their own cars. This does make things easier for us than other productions.
‘Paddy, Freddie and Chris will of course be following the two-metre distance rule with one another when they are filming outside of their cars.’
However, they remained uncertain about the immediate future of the studio.
‘It’s too soon to say what we will do with the studios as they’re not for a few months yet,’ they said. ‘There will be changes – we’ve got some ideas, but haven’t chosen which way to go. ‘It’s our first series on BBC One so we really want there to be a sense of scale.’
Top Gear is expected to return to BBC One later this year.
