Outlander’s Jaime Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) captured fans hearts right from season one of the Starz hit. However, with the help of a bit of time travel and some clever makeup, the passionate young couple have quickly aged into grandparents. Now it seems the Jamie actor isn’t too happy with his new competition after Brianna Fraser star Sophie Skelton opened up about their off screen spat.
Outlander stars Jamie and Claire went from a young couple to a set of grandparents over the span of just a few short seasons.
Despite the on-screen ageing, Jamie and Claire are still set to have their fair share of romance in the new season.
Just a glimpse of the season five trailer sees that the pair are still very much in love.
One particular scene even sees Jamie declare Claire’s presence in his life as a “blessing” no matter what happens in the war.

However, the trailer has also teased some action between Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) and Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin).
Following the birth of baby Jemmy, the two are set to get a whole lot closer, meaning Jamie star Sam Heughan has become very competitive about who is the best couple.
Speaking to TV Guide he said: “They might be the grandparents of the show now, but Claire and Jamie are still the sexiest couple—not Bree and Roger,”
However, Brianna Fraser star Sophie Skelton has since spoken out, revealing the competition has had Sam “crying” about it all for some time now.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, she laughed: “He’s been saying this all morning.”
“He does go on about that yeah” added Richard.
Sohie added: “Apparently some reporter said that Roger and Brianna were the hot new couple and apparently Sam’s been crying about it since he said it.”
However, competition aside, the star revealed her on-screen parents are in fact the hottest couple of the series.
She concluded: “No but those two will always always be the hot couple, we are the young sleep deprived parents now so… that ship has sailed.”
Meanwhile, Claire could be part of a harrowing new plot next season should showrunners follow the tragic events of Diana Gabaldon’s books.
Season five is going to delve into the Outlander book franchise’s fifth book, which is titled The Fiery Cross.
However, as the show has been moving at breakneck speed so far, viewers believe the fifth book will only last a portion of the fifth season, and will eventually encroach into the sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

Now, as fans look deeper into the promotional material provided for the fifth season, they have come to the conclusion it will include a dramatic and horrifying scene which sees Claire being raped while in captivity.
Speaking out on Reddit, wheeler1432 wrote: “I have read indications that there might be some of the sixth book in season five.
“I have read that Diana [Gabaldon] wrote the penultimate episode. Therefore, my theory is that the penultimate episode of the season will be Claire’s rape from ABOSAA [A Breath of Snow and Ashes].”
Outlander season 5 premieres on Starz on February 16, 2020, and the next day on Amazon Prime Video.
