As usual, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield welcomed guests on the This Morning View segment to talk about the latest headlines. While the opinions of the guests are usually the ones which attract the most attention, today Holly had her say on Nigella Lawson’s leftover pizza and egg. She made it clear she’s unlikely to tuck into the dish.

Posting a photo of a slice of pizza with a poached egg on top, Nigella claimed it was her ideal treat in the morning.

She explained: ”Now this is what I call a breakfast — leftover pizza from my Friday night order, reheated and topped with a poached egg and a splodge of chilli crisp.”

But discussing it on This Morning, Holly ripped into the dish.

“Will Nigella Lawson influence your breakfast?” Holly asked.

“Last week we were talking about how she taught us how to have toast, the perfect toast.

“I’m kind of loving all of this but this week she has divided food fans again by suggesting breakfast of an egg on top of a let over pizza.

“So this is the picture of the egg. So you get your pizza from the delivery, you wait for it to go cold and then you pop an egg on it.”

Phillip laughed: “It looks like something that’s just been run over by a car.”

“It looks like something that’s come out of the bottom of the bin, I think,” exclaimed Holly, who was clearly not impressed.

It comes after Nigella divided the nation with her recipe on how to prepare the perfect slice of toast.

Holding a piece in her hand, she told Cook, Eat, Repeat fans: “I favour the two-stage buttering approach and so far, only stage one has taken place.

“That is to say, the moment this came out of the toaster and was lovely and hot, I spread it with butter, so the butter has melted down into it and it’ll give it a fabulous, crumpety bite.”

As she spread on more butter, she detailed: “Stage two now, ready for it, I need a little more butter and it will stay in some golden patches on the surface.

“It is unsalted butter, which I always prefer to use, but what I need to do is sprinkle some seasalt flakes over.

“This is the platonic ideal of toast.”

Viewers were divided and Phillip explained he could only eat a slice of cold toast.

“I cannot… There is no chance that I can eat that amount of butter on toast,” he stated.

“Although, my toast has got to me very well-done, it’s got to be left to go cold, it’s got to be then spread…”

But he added: “However, when I have crumpets, I do like to have a crumpet and sprinkle sea salt on the top of a buttered crumpet. It’s got to be cold though!”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
