Netflix announces seven new series including Rowan Atkinson comedy

Netflix has announced that seven new shows are coming to the UK and Irish version of the streaming platform.

The pay-monthly service, founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph and now provides in-house shows, took to its official UK Twitter account to confirm the news.

The account, which has over 869,000 followers, tweeted: "NEW STUFF NEWS.

"Following on from the global success of shows like Sex Education, The Crown, Top Boy and After Life, we’re excited to fill you in on *seven* new series that will soon be produced across the UK… (thread)."

It then went on to list all of the programmes and a little detail about each.

It also revealed that on top of these new titles, a number of UK-based series are currently in production.

The ones currently being filmed are Sex Education series three, Top Boy season two, After Life season three, and The Crown series five.

There are also new titles in production including Anatomy of a Scandal, The Last Bus, and Harlan Coben's Stay Close.

The seven new shows coming are: The Red Zone, Man vs Bee, Cuckoo Song, Baby Reindeer, Half Bad, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and Lockwood and Co.

The Red Zone is from writers Barney Ronay and Jonathan Liew and EP Sam Mendes, and is a comedy about football.

Netflix wrote: "But also not about football. Mainly it's a story about the people and the surfaces that collide in the orbit of this strange world of bluffers, sharks and genuine talent."

Man vs Bee stars Rowan Atkinson as a man who finds himself at war with a bee while housesitting a luxurious mansion.

Cuckoo Song is a "gripping" horror story about two warring sisters – one human, one monster – who must unite to reverse a supernatural pact gone horribly wrong, and with it mend their grief-stricken family.

It is based on the novel by Frances Hardinge.

Baby Reindeer is based on the true story of the hit 2019 Edinburgh Fringe one-man stage-play, which follows the writer/performer Richard Gadd’s warped relationship with his female stalker and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deep, dark, buried trauma.

Half Bad centres around the illegitimate son of the world’s most feared witch.

The character, Nathan, has spent his whole life being monitored for signs he may follow the same destructive path as his father.

According to Netflix, it's an angsty, roller-coaster ride of a young adult show, from Giri/Haji and Humans writer Joe Barton.

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, written and created by Sophie Petzal, brings us the mind-bending murder mystery which presents an intriguing puzzle – how do you solve a murder when every time you are getting close to the answer, you wake up in someone else’s body?

Lockwood and Co is by writer/lead director Joe Cornish – a supernatural action adventure about a tiny London startup.

More specifically, it's a ghost-hunting startup, run by two teenage boys and a newly arrived, supremely psychically gifted girl.
