Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt are two of BBC Breakfast’s long-running presenters who deliver the latest headlines to their viewers. During the week they rival Good Morning Britain which is presented by former BBC host Susanna Reid. The pair recently touched on the channel’s rivalry and claimed that the competition was “great”.

When discussing the rivalry between BBC Breakfast and Good Morning Britain, Charlie told Radio Times: “I think competition is great.

“I don’t think any morning TV programme is arrogant enough to think the whole audience only wants to see them. But we stick to our ethos, and it resonates with our audience.”

Naga added: “We are all journalists trying to facilitate the telling of a story. Good luck to them.”

The ratings of BBC Breakfast have overtaken those on Good Morning Britain, especially since Piers Morgan’s departure in March 2021.

Before her permanent spot on ITV talkshow GMB, Susanna Reid sat on the iconic red sofa from 2003 to 2014.

Touching on the controversial decision, Naga expressed: “I’ve seen access to things improve rather than diminish.

“It’s a good thing to be spread better across the UK and hear different accents on the show.”

Naga has been sitting on the red sofa alongside Charlie since 2009 and admitted that she always gets asked the same question: “What time do you get up in the morning?”

She explained that she has a rigorous schedule from when her alarm goes off at 3:45am, with her outfit laid out the night before.

However, she did admit that she has a habit of snoozing her alarm, one which Charlie refused to let happen.

He explained that as soon as his alarm goes off, he gets up and ready for the day, not allowing the snooze button to ruin his “formula”.

Naga is known for her abrupt comments and hard-hitting comments, but also her banter with colleagues.

Naga recently took the opportunity to throw a tongue-in-cheek dig at Carol Kirkwood before introducing the weather report.

“Talking of weird and wonderful…,” Naga stated before turning towards Carol, who was poised to deliver the forecast via video.

Carol smiled as Ben Thompson and Naga chuckled over the dig.

From Monday to Wednesday, the BBC show is presented by newly appointed Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, with Naga and Charlie presenting from Thursday to Saturday.

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna presents the ITV morning show from Monday to Wednesday, with Kate Garraway taking over the end-of-the-week duties.

At the moment the pair have no permanent co-presenter, with Richard Madley, Martin Lewis, Ben Shepherd and Ed Balls often standing in.

Former permanent GMB presenter Piers Morgan walked off live on air and resigned from his role on the show.

The next day he confirmed he exited Good Morning Britain after refusing to apologise for “disbelieving Meghan Markle”.
