The Professor has spent most of Money Heist’s previous four seasons working his master plan from the sidelines. However, fans of the Netflix series have predicted he could make a drastic move in season five and join his team on the frontlines.

Filming for Money Heist’s highly anticipated fifth and final season is underway and on schedule for a release in early 2021.

When Netflix subscribers last left the popular Spanish series, the Professor’s (played by Álvaro Morte) team of criminal experts were still trapped in the Bank of Spain.

However, the gang are preparing for the most aggressive stage of the heist yet following the cruel murder of their crewmate, Nairobi (Alba Flores).

Meanwhile, the Professor has problems of his own after his secure hideout was infiltrated by renegade police inspector, Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).

As things start to heat up for Money Heist’s climactic conclusion, viewers have been sorting through the clues and may already have a good idea how the series will come to an end.

Despite being one of the most crucial members of the team, the Professor still hasn’t stepped foot inside either the Royal Mint or the Bank of Spain throughout the series.

Some fans believe the criminal genius finally donning the robbers’ iconic costume in the show’s final instalment could be the perfect way to round out the fifth season.

Before the action kicks off for the last time, Money Heist enthusiasts have taken to Reddit to discuss what could transpire when the series returns.

Redditor WarrenBoofet began the debate and suggested: “What if the Professor somehow enters the bank of Spain to join the heist as some last ditch effort because comms are down.

“I think it’d be really really really cool to see how the gang fares with him actually leading in person.”

Although the whip smart team leader has demonstrated his superior tactical skills throughout the series, fans still don’t really know how the Professor would fare in a real fight.

We may get a preview of his combat skills when he takes down Alicia in the season premiere, but that could be just a taste of what’s to come.

While the Professor is unlikely to fare well in a head-to-head with the likes of Gandía (José Manuel Poga), his services may be required as tension in the Bank starts to mount.

Other fans agreed with the theory, and admitted it would be disappointing if the Professor doesn’t put on Money Heist’s classic red jumpsuit and Dali mask at least once in the series.

One viewer replied: “I hope he enters the bank to negotiate or as a part of his plan. It would be cool to see him in the thick of the action.

“That will address complaints that he doesn’t understand what the others are going through under the pressure.”

The Professor has frequently grown frustrated as his hot-headed team continually let their personal grievances get in the way of performing his thought-out plans.

However, by transplanting him right in the thick of the action, the brains of the operation would finally experience the effects of a high-pressure environment firsthand.

The cast and crew have been posting plenty of updates over on Instagram, so there will certainly be more hints and theories to come as production continues.

Money Heist season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
