Spanish crime thriller Money Heist will return from its lengthy hiatus with season five next year. Criminal genius the Professor will undoubtedly have a number of tricks left up his sleeve, but has his ultimate plan already been revealed months before the series concludes on Netflix?

International phenomenon Money Heist has thrown a number of challenges at the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) and his team during their second mission.

Over the last two seasons, the gang infiltrated the Bank of Spain to try and get their hands on its vast fortune of gold.

In true Money Heist fashion, a number of problems arose, including Nairobi’s (Alba Flores) task of moving the stash from inside the Bank’s flooded vaults.

Now the team has been surrounded on all sides, it’s anyone’s guess how the band of criminals will avoid the clutches of the Spanish police.

Meanwhile, this year’s shocking finale left the series on a hopeless note when the Professor’s hideout was infiltrated by former inspector, Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).

As the series comes to a close, fans have been piecing together their theories for how Money Heist will wrap up in the upcoming fifth season.

A number of key clues have already been spotted, and plenty of viewers already have a strong idea of who comes out on top in the thrilling conclusion.

Recently, an extremely subtle clue was spotted by a perceptive fan which may have unravelled the Professor’s entire scheme before all is revealed next year.

They took to Reddit when they realised the criminal mastermind was perusing some potentially revealing reading material in the third season.

Redditor Nastie22 posted: “In part 3 episode 6 I noticed that The Professor has been reading a book ‘El tubo de Lamson’ which means pneumatic tubes.”

Although complications eventually arise, the Professor kicks off each season with the heist meticulously planned out.

If fans follow along closely, there are all sorts of clues and hints in the background revealing the next stages of his plans episodes in advance.

This theory suggests the Professor subtly tipped off viewers to a major component two whole seasons before it eventually comes into play.

The fan explained: “Pneumatic tubes are systems that propel cylindrical containers through networks of tubes by compressed air or by partial vacuum and are used for transporting solid objects.

“So I think they will use these pneumatic tubes to take out the gold outside the Bank and that is why they turn the gold into pellets.”

Some fans were perplexed by the decision to melt the bars of gold down into tiny pellets for easier transportation.

While it has certainly made concealing the fortune easier, the weight of the gold remains the same and viewers were left wondering what benefits were to be gained by making the asset smaller.

However, others agreed this fan was speaking sense, as one commented: “Well spotted. Not seen anyone else comment in this and something I didn’t realise myself as an English speaker.”

Thanks to a deceptively simple Easter egg, the Professor’s reasoning may have finally been revealed before the plan reaches its final stage in part five.

Money Heist season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
