Fans of the Spanish heist show have been waiting for a release date announcement for months, after season four left all of their beloved characters in quite the precarious situation with one of the biggest cliffhangers any Netflix show has ever pulled off. Now, reports seem to indicate that an official announcement could come soon for an August release of season five of Money Heist.
Spanish news site Marca exclusively reported the upcoming season of Money Heist will land on Netflix in mid-August 2021.
“We will have to wait until summer when the episodes arrive on the streaming platform,” they said.
In their report on Monday the website added: “The official announcement with the exact date will take place in the next few days.”
From what is known so far the fifth and final season will consist of 10 episodes.
Netflix made its announcement in July of 2020 saying that “the heist will come to an end”.
Soon after, the cast and crew started production, and some social posts from the stars of the show recently hinted that filming is about to be wrapped up.
Fans on Reddit were ecstatic at the perspective of an August release.
One user said: “This is good news let’s hope for the best.”
A second person however was hoping for even better news: “I was hoping it would come out sooner. This is disappointing.”
A third fan added: “Given everything that’s happened in the last year it’s a miracle they’ve been able to get it out so soon.
“They started filming around September time. Shows normally take an entire year to film and edit so the fact they’ve done it in that same timescale WITH a worldwide pandemic is actually very impressive.”

A fourth person added to the conversation saying: “Yeah I think they’ll be done shooting everything by end of March.”
“We can expect a date announcement in April-May. As mentioned in some actors’ “Thank you” notes, there will be a HUGE marketing campaign months in advance to celebrate the season as much as possible.
“So, an August release is most likely confirmed.”
Season five will conclude the heist at the Bank of Spain and reveal how the gang will manage to escape carrying 90 tonnes of gold.
Marca also reported: “In addition, the leaked images of the filming have revealed that there will be a change in leadership, and everything indicates now that Lisbon (played by Itziar Ituño) will be in command on the ground.”
Other theories suggest Lisbon will either betray The Professor (Álvaro Morte) and join the police, or alternatively, that former colleague Ángel (Fernando Soto) will join her and the robbers.
The future of The Professor is also being put into question as viewers last saw him at the end of season four with a gun pointed at his head.
Money Heist Part 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
