Megyn Kelly Had A Recent Twitter Spat with this ABC News Correspondent

Former Today Show host and Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly is back in the headlines. Recently appearing on Tucker Carlson Tonight, Kelly weighed in on the latest controversy over NBC’s handling of accusations of sexual misconduct against former Today anchor Matt Lauer, calling for an independent investigation on past allegations.

Over at ABC, one chief news correspondent shared his thoughts on Twitter about Kelly’s comments.

Kelly’s short run at NBC

The former Fox News anchor was hired to join the Today team in 2017, where she was given thethird hour to host her own show entitled Megyn Kelly Today. Theprogram’s format highlighted Kelly interviewing key figures on a host oftopics, ranging from celebrity news to national crime cases.

In October 2018, Kelly madecontroversial comments regarding the use of black face in Halloween costumesduring a panel segment. She reportedly wrote a letter apologizing to NBC staffmembers for what she said as well as making an on-air apology. “I want to begin with two words: I’m sorry,” she said at thetop of her show, accordingto Rolling Stone. “I defended the idea [of blackface], sayingthat as long it was respectful and part of a Halloween costume, that it seemedOK. Well, I was wrong, and I am sorry.”

Despite her attempts to make amends, many were upset by her comments, including some of the Today co-hosts. “While she apologized to the staff, she owes a bigger apology to folks of color around the country because this is a history going back to the 1830s,” Today’s Al Roker said of Kelly during a broadcast. NBC ended up letting Kelly out of her contract with a hefty payout in the millions.

Twitter volley

After Kelly’s comments on Tucker Carlson Tonight about NBC’s handling of former Today host Lauer and their rumored lack of adequate investigation, ABC News Chief Political Analyst Matthew Dodd took to Twitter to share his thoughts. “I really don’t want to hear from either Matt Lauer or Megyn Kelly,” he posted on October 19, according to People. “Can’t they just fade away and enjoy their large pot of money.” The tweet has since been deleted.

Kelly did not wait long to respond. “Yes, I could just sit back and ‘enjoy my money,’ @matthewjdowd,” she tweeted, “but instead I’ve chosen to speak up for women being harassed and abused who have been muzzled by NDAs. Sorry you find that so annoying.”

Then it was Dowd’s turn. “Megyn, iam all for that, and if you read my feed you would know that,” heresponded to Kelly. “However, did you stand up forChristine Blasey Ford, Anita Hill, and all the accusers of President Trump? Also, i know you are blasting NBC, but i don’t see you saying much about Fox.”

Kelly then posted a reminder for Dowd regarding her 2016autobiography, “Settlefor More.” “By the way, I devoted an entire chapter of mybook to the harassment scandal at Fox and discussed it on virtually everynetwork. It was a NYT #1 Best Seller. You should read it! #settleformore,” shetweeted.

After a bit of the social media back-and-forth, the two newscasters seemed to come to a resolution… sort of.

“Megyn, I wish youwell. I would put my objectivity up against yours any day of the week,” Dowd posted, to which Kelly countered, “I think the wordsyou’re looking for are ‘I’m sorry, I was wrong.’ Apology accepted!”

Dowd then seemed tomake a more sincere effort, letting Kelly, and the rest of his followers, knowthat he took down his original post. “@megynkelly I deleted the original tweet. No matter how right I feel, it is not the loving way I want to be in thisworld,” he wrote. “We have enough meanness and coarsenessin the world today, I strive to do better each day. I do wish you well and hopewe can heal instead of hurt.”

That was good enough for Kelly. “I am all for less meanness in the world. We’re good @matthewjdowd,” she replied.

Though Kelly and Dowd may not be havingcoffee together anytime soon, they do seem to have ended off on a respectfulnote.
