Kit Malthouse, the UK Government’s Policing Minister, told Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard that the law is clear regarding mass assemblies. Ben Shephard quizzed the Conservative MP whether cancelling the original official vigil for Sarah Everhard was a mistake.
Mr Malthouse said: “In these circumstances, the law is clear that mass assemblies are illegal.
“In fact, the organisers of that vigil cancelled the official vigil.
“What the police were dealing with was an informal gathering.”
Mr Shephard interjected: “Was that a mistake to cancel the official vigil?”
The Policing Minister added: “There was obviously a court challenge to that and the situation stood.
“This investigation will examine over the next couple of weeks, what happened and the decision-making.”
