Amy and Matt Roloff are the stars of TLC’s Little People, Big World — and a lot has happened to the ex-couple over the years. In recent seasons, Amy moved off of Roloff Farms, leaving the farm duties to Matt. Now, it looks like Matt received a hefty loan to help keep the farm going. Here’s what’s going on.
Did Matt Roloff from ‘Little People, Big World’ buy Roloff Farms?
Matt Roloff and Amy Roloff have been through quite a lot on Little People, Big World. The couple was married for several decades before calling it quits. Later, Amy decided she’d leave Roloff Farms behind. After much deliberation, she told Matt she’d sell her half of the farm to him as she found a new home for her and her fiancé, Chris Marek.
Ultimately, Amy sold her half of Roloff Farms to Matt for $667,000. But Matt explained to a fan on Instagram that he and Amy were still both very much involved in the property. “I don’t own the whole thing,” Matt explained in June 2020 via Instagram. “Amy and I still co-own the North side. (Original farm with big house). I only own the south parcel. Hope that helps. I know it’s confusing.”
So, how much is Roloff Farms worth today? Back when Matt and Amy first purchased it in 1990, they bought it for $185,000. In 2018, the farm was reportedly worth $1,675,830. That’s quite a lot of growth.
Is Roloff Farms still in business? Matt Roloff received a huge loan
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hasn’t been easy on small businesses — and this is particularly true for Roloff Farms. While the Little People, Big World farm opens every year for business, Matt Roloff noted he had to make a number of changes to abide by state guidelines. The pandemic certainly affected the farm’s usual business, too.
Thankfully, it looks like Matt was able to get a substantial government loan to help offset the money loss. According to Fox News, Matt received $53,841 thanks to the Paycheck Protection Program. He reportedly got this money back in April 2020.
Aside from keeping the farm afloat, Matt noted he was using the funds to pay his employees. Some of that money might even go to his family, as Amy and Zach Roloff are both listed as employees.
When does Roloff Farms open?
So, can Little People, Big World fans visit Roloff Farms any time of the year? According to the Roloff Farms website, the answer is no. The farm is only open to the public during the annual pumpkin season celebration. If fans want to have private tours of the property, they need to book those separately.
The good news is fans who want to visit Roloff Farms during pumpkin season are likely to run into the Roloff family. Matt Roloff, as well as Amy, Zach, and Caryn Chandler, are all typically roaming around when the season hits — and they’re very open to talking with fans and autographing merchandise.
We’re not sure what exactly is in store for Roloff Farms in 2021, but we’re sure the family is hoping for a more normal season after the difficulties that came with 2020. Hopefully, the PPP loan Matt received is enough to keep them going for quite some time.
