Jay proposes to dying Lola in moving EastEnders Christmas Day scenes

Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) decides to take a chance on love this festive season in EastEnders as he proposes to Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) in romantic scenes.

Lola was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour earlier this year, after she ended up in hospital following a seizure.

The hairdresser had hoped that the cancerous tumour could be removed, but the surgery proved unsuccessful, and she was subsequently told that her condition was terminal.

Lola has resolved to live every second and fight for as much time with her loved ones as she can.

Jay, meanwhile, has vowed to support her every step of the way, and after some setbacks regarding clinical trials in upcoming scenes, he makes a huge decision – vowing to make the festive season as memorable as possible.

Aware that it could be their last together, he plots to propose on Christmas Day.

On the day in question, Lola wakes up to the welcomed sight of Lexi (Isabella Brown) opening her presents. Jay subsequently hands Lola a lovely gift, though what it is remains to be seen.

Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), meanwhile, is quick to commend Jay for sticking by Lola, and Jay – touched – takes the opportunity to reveal his plan, admitting that he’s going to pop the question.

The funeral parlour director then enlists the help of best mate Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), who helps him organise an outdoor Christmas miracle, with some snow setting the scene gloriously.

In emotional scenes, Jay leads Lola outside and gets down on one knee, asking for her hand in marriage.

The question is: will Lola say yes?

We’re keeping quiet on that, we’re afraid, so you’ll just have to tune in to find out!

One to watch: Sunday December 25 at 9:25pm on BBC One.
