Hollyoaks and Emmerdale star James Sutton has amicably split from wife Rachael after five years of marriage.
The actor, who plays John Paul McQueen in Hollyoaks, met Rachael at Glastonbury Festival and began dating her in 2017. In 2018, the pair married in Glastonbury in a romantic ceremony.
James, who also played Ryan Lamb in Emmerdale, recently opened up about their split, revealing that they parted on good terms.
‘Rachael and I had a wonderful relationship and marriage,’ James told The Mirror. ‘It was very sad but amicable, and we remain friends.’
The publication reported that the couple had ‘hit a rocky patch during lockdown’, and decided to quietly split.
James has had a busy year on Hollyoaks, with character John Paul having recently been the victim of a homophobic attack.
John Paul has been struggling ever since the targeted attack, which happened outside The Loft, and in upcoming scenes headteacher Carter (David Ames) is determined to support him.
In a bid to get the former teacher to face his demons, Carter encourages John Paul to return to the night-club, and intriguing scenes follow.
James first joined Hollyoaks back in 2006 as the son of Myra McQueen and Sally St Claire, and he remained in the village until 2008.
In 2009, James joined the cast of Emmerdale as Ryan Lamb, and was involved in a huge storyline which almost saw him engage in a secret love affair with Maisie Wylde, before discovering that she was actually his sister.
He left Emmerdale in 2011, before and soon headed back to Hollyoaks. His second stint lasted from 2012 to 2017, and he later returned again in 2019.
