Explosive Coronation Street episode with just four characters will reveal secrets and lies tearing the Barlow family apart

The Barlow family's secrets and lies will be laid bare as Sinead Tinker's cancer diagnosis is finally revealed.

All of the action takes place Taking place in Weatherfield General Hospital and the family home with only Ken Barlow, his sons Peter and Daniel Osbourne and Sinead appearing on the 30 minute programme.

All of the drama will kick off after pregnant Sinead (Katie McGlynn ) collapses and is rushed to hospital – with her new husband Daniel stunned to learn that she has cervical cancer when he arrives.

Sinead has been keeping her illness a secret since she got the tragic news on their wedding day earlier this month.

Last week, the distressed factory worker bumped into Daniel's dad, Ken, while at the hospital and ended up confiding in him and swearing him to secrecy.

Needless to say, Daniel is furious that he has been kept in the dark and heads to Ken's home to have it out with him – only to be interrupted by his brother Peter (Chris Gascoyne), who is in the garden.

In emotional scenes, the two men discuss their dad's parenting skills and their individual upbringings, totally unaware that Ken is listening to every word.

Speaking about the episode, William Roache, who plays Ken, explained: "When Daniel does find out Ken gets the full blast of all the pent up resentment that Daniel has lurking because he was an absent father.

"It’s a great episode, drawing on their history and bringing all those things together.

"One of the things I love in Coronation Street is how it draws on its own history, in this case the history of Ken being a bad father.

"I love it when we’re working in the Barlows, I’m very fond of them all in real life, I’m really enjoying having a full house again.

"A few years ago there was just Ken, Tracy and Amy. Now there’s Tracy, Amy, Daniel, Adam, Peter, Simon, Steve and Sinead as well, there are so many stories to tell."

Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel, added: "I was delighted when heard about the episode, it was a real vote of confidence not only in us but in the characters and the story that they thought it could support a whole half hour episode.

"Also I love working with Chris and Bill and Katie, it was like doing a play, we had a read through and rehearsals.

"The pressure was on because in a normal episode they cut away to another storyline but this one is all on us. We had a great time filming it."

He added: "Daniel rushes back from the hospital ranting and raving to himself, quite unhinged and paranoid and then he is running down the ginnel and fortunately Peter is outside and intervenes and calms him down.

"They have a conversation where older brother and younger brother dissect Ken and Ken hears most of it because he is in the kitchen – but neither of them are aware of this."

Last week, Corrie fans were in tears as Sinead was told that she needed to terminate her and Daniel's unborn baby for the best chance of beating the cancer.

Sinead broke down as she refused to have an abortion – explaining that she wasn't going to tell Daniel about the illness until the end of her first trimester, so that he doesn't have to choose between her and the baby.

When Ken vowed to tell his son the truth, Sinead threatened him – recalling that it is because of him that she aborted her and Daniel's first baby together.

Daniel pushed his dad down the stairs after he convinced Sinead to get an abortion so that Daniel could continue with his education.

The special four-hander episode of Coronation Street airs at 8.30pm on Monday 29 October on ITV.
