Emmerdale’s Zak Dingle disappears from soap to lockdown in Scotland as he leaves the village – The Sun

EMMERDALE'S Zak Dingle disappeared from the soap to lockdown in Scotland as he leaves the village.

The ITV soap launched its special lockdown episodes on Monday night featuring a restricted cast.

Sam Dingle and Lydia were the protagonists of the first episode, where they revealed the in-soap explanation for why Zak Dingle was missing.

Actor Steve Halliwell is 66-years-old, so is one of the older cast members considered high-risk and won't return to filming for the time being.

Lydia confirmed he was back in Scotland with his granddaughter Debbie Dingle, where he would be spending lockdown.

The character returned earlier this year following a six month break to attend Sam and Lydia's wedding.

Filming was initially halted in March because of Covid-19 but the programme's cast and crew returned to work last week, following social-distancing measures.

Despite the pandemic effecting the storylines, dales boozer The Woolpack will remain open in the new episodes.

The Woolpack will continue to be the hub of the village as the soap reflects wider society and will go takeaway only in the coming weeks.

Upcoming special episodes of Emmerdale will offer "snapshots of lockdown life", producers have said.

The lockdown episodes will focus on the lives of characters including Cain Dingle, Paddy Kirk, Chas Dingle, Sam Dingle and Lydia Hart.

Sam and Lydia's marriage will be tested, while a secret from Mandy's 17 years away from Emmerdale will be uncovered.

Secrets uncovered during the lockdown episodes will feed into and affect future storylines.

The new episodes will air from June 8 and will last for three weeks before the soap returns to its previous broadcast schedule.
