Emmerdale’s Fiona Wade breaks silence on quitting Priya Sharma role on ITV soap

Emmerdale star Fiona Wade has broke her silence on quitting her Priya Sharma role on the hit ITV soap after 11 years.

It was reported in October that Fiona, 43, was leaving her role of Priya after 11 years on the soap to pursue other acting opportunities.

And now Fiona has discussed her reason to leave the soap after first joining in 2011, admitting it is a "sad" decision.

Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: "It was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make. Leaving my Emmerdale family is a big thing and it wasn't easy filming my last scenes.

"When you've been somewhere for that long and that's your every day, it's hard and feels sad. But as every actor knows, you need to challenge yourself and that's very important too."

She added: "There are so many blessings that come your way when you're in a show like Emmerdale. To be given a character that you can make yours, to have fantastic writers that enable you to grow in this amazing character. Plus, the friends you make and the experiences you have is invaluable."

It comes as Emmerdale spoilers have confirmed that Fiona's final scenes as Priya will air next week as the character faces a dramatic exit on the hit ITV soap.

In upcoming scenes, Priya is left traumatised during a Take A Vow event when a veil catches fire as the flames bring back memories of her previous ordeal in the maize maze fire during the 2021 stunt week.

However, Priya, who has faced a heartbreaking recovery since the accident, decides to take ownership of what happened and opens up about her history to the client, Justin.

And later, she's left shocked when an impressed Justin then offers her a job in London.

However, David Metcalfe is distraught to learn that Priya is planning to move away and takes drastic action, kidnapping their daughter Amba and disappearing along with his son, Theo.

Thankfully, Leyla Harding manages to track David down to a cottage and begs him to see sense, accusing him of running away from his problems.

But David is past the point of no return as he locks Leyla in the bathroom before she can call the police while back in the village, Priya makes a call to the police… have things gone too far?

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV and ITVX.
