Emmerdale fans are counting down the days until the ITV soap marks its 50th anniversary this October. The serial drama’s bosses have hinted there will be some “sensational” storylines unfolding throughout the milestone month. They have also hinted Nate Robinson (played by Jurell Carter), Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Sam Dingle (James Hooton) might not make it out of a deadly storm alive.

The month packed full of drama will see massive stunts, shocking revelations and a windstorm which causes devastation in the Yorkshire village.

Producer Jane Hudson told Express.co.uk and other media one storyline, which involves three characters, has never been done in a soap before.

She teased: “There is a story which involves Sam, Nate and Belle, and it’s a story only Emmerdale can do and that is going to dominate quite a lot of the 50th as well.”

Could the trio get caught outside when the vicious storm sweeps through the village?

Jane suggested people get seriously injured in the storm, adding: “It’s a storm, it would be crazy if nobody was injured. It’s not a storm in a teacup, it’s a storm in our village.”

Could Belle, Nate and Sam be heading back from the Woolpack when the storm wreaks havoc on the village?

Will lightning strike a nearby tree which crushes the characters and leaves them fighting for their lives?

Emmerdale’s rural location might make it extremely difficult for the emergency services to get to causalities during the windstorm.

The characters might be deep in the countryside on a walk when the storm hits where nobody will be able to hear their screams.

Jane added: “It involves so many of our families, it is not just a storm which affects some people, it affects the entire village.

“There is one element which nobody has done and no other soap could do it apart from Emmerdale apart from where we are, that is a hint for you all.”

Senior producer Kate Brooks revealed some of “our best-loved villagers will be in peril”.

She added: “It’s safe to say that literally, the village won’t be the same after this, and it will never be the same again because the impact this storm has on people’s lives is just massive.”

She continued: “We are keen to make sure that we’ve covered all the different characters, and that all the families who are in the village are affected and impacted in some way by what happens during the month of October.”

Kate also revealed there are elements of the big storm week she has never witnessed on a soap before and admitted it is nerve-wracking to be a part of it.

She said: “In terms of filming, it’s quite unprecedented in terms of what we’re doing at the scale of what we’re doing.”

Will Nate, Belle and Sam pull through if they are horrifically injured in the storm or will one of them die?

Emmerdale fans would be devastated to lose the characters, but producers have been tight-lipped on who might die during the anniversary month.

They have hinted a murder might occur during the storm week, so the characters might get killed by someone rather than from the natural disaster.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
