Poor Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) has been having a rough time of it in Emmerdale lately, after the discovery that wife Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) had been cheating on him.
In recent weeks, we have seen him spiralling into a dark place as part of his latest big storyline, something which co-star Lisa Riley is ‘over the moon’ about.
Lisa, who plays Mandy Dingle, has worked alongside Dominic Brunt for many years, and is thrilled to see him involved in such a serious storyline.
‘I am over the moon and I mean this from the bottom of my heart.’ She said.
‘Some journalists will find this somewhere: when I did my first ever quote when it was announced I was coming back to the show all those years ago now, someone said to me ‘What would be your favourite things to happen?’ And one of the things has happened, which is that Dominic gets the lead story and tells it with the most enormous amount of heart.
‘I say that because (a) I know he’ll do it justice as an actor, (b) he’s my best friend and (c) I just want to sit back with pride and watch him win every award known to man, because he is going to nail it.’
With Dominic now heading up an emotional storyline, which will see Paddy and Mandy sleep together, there is one more thing Lisa has on her bucket list.
‘Everyone knows [Dominic] directs movies but my absolute dream is I want to be directed on Emmerdale by him.
‘If I could have my one Emmerdale fairy wand wish it would be if they just gave him one of our Thursday hours, a really big Mandy storyline for that hour, that would be my ultimate fairy wand wish.
‘He’d be amazing and I want to be directed by him.’
Discussing the next part to Paddy’s storyline and reuniting with Mandy, an Emmerdale spokesperson said: ‘Paddy opens up to Mandy, but as they take a trip down memory lane, old passions are reawakened and they soon find themselves falling into bed together.
‘Will this instant need for gratification and company help Paddy, or will he find himself spiralling into an even deeper depression?’
