Emmerdale’s Leyla Cavanagh (played by Roxy Shahidi) and Liam (Jonny McPherson) tied the knot earlier this year. However, married life has not been without its rough patches for the couple. A few weeks ago Leyla became suspicious of Liam after he continued to lie to her about his whereabouts. In scenes to air next week on the ITV soap, Leyla is set to confront Liam about his web of lies. Will the couple be able to make amends or will they split?

Liam has spent weeks lying to his wife Leyla about working at Hotten General Hospital.

After picking up on his strange behaviour, Leyla took it upon herself to do some digging and discovered Liam wasn’t working at the hospital at all.

He has been spending his days visiting his daughter Leanna’s (Mimi Slinger) grave and then making his way to his old family home to feel close to her.

With Liam unaware Leyla knows the truth about his whereabouts, he carries on living a double life.

In scenes to air next week, Leyla is grateful when Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) invites her round for a cuppa.

Leyla hesitantly opens up to Tracy about the double life Liam has been leading behind her back.

The next day Leyla becomes increasingly frustrated at Liam’s refusal to engage with her as he pretends to get ready for work.

Tracy recommends Leyla should push for more answers and bring matters to a head.

But how will Liam react if Leyla becomes eager to find out what is actually happening?

Liam and Leyla have been struggling to communicate with each other, and could this confrontation lead the couple to part with one another?

Or will it bring them closer together if Liam opens up to Leyla on the reasoning behind his secrecy?

Jonny recently shared more about his character Liam’s double life with Digital Spy.

He said going back to the house to see an apple tree that he planted with Leanna when she was a child “helped to trigger certain memories” for Liam, and that this is helping him to handle his grief.

He added: “As much as Leyla can console Liam, and as much as he can speak to Jacob, there’s not really anyone in the village who knew Leanna to the same depth and degree that he did as a father.

“I think this is the closest Liam can get to really feeling like he can be close to Leanna.

“Even though it’s all in his head, it’s the best method he can find for just getting through his grief.”

Leanna was murdered by evil Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) but at the moment, everyone believes her death to be a tragic accident.

The teen had learnt the truth about Meena and her murderous tendencies before she was cornered by the killer.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV.
