Ben (played by Simon Lennon) has been making hushed phone calls and keeping secrets from Aaron (Danny Miller) for a while, and Emmerdale viewers speculated that perhaps he’s plotting revenge on Aaron, who bullied Ben while they were at school together. Liv noticed Ben with a drunk man a couple of weeks ago but when she confronted him in front of Aaron, he accused her of lying. The mystery man was back on Friday’s episode of the ITV soap though, and his identity has been revealed as Ben’s father. When Aaron learns the truth, he wants to support Ben, but Ben doesn’t think he can be near another alcoholic, so Aaron places the blame on Liv.

On Friday’s instalment, Liv and Aaron came across Ben’s father Warren, and Liv recognised him as the drunk man Ben had been with weeks ago.

She told Aaron: “That’s him, the guy that Ben put in a taxi.”

Aaron replied: “Hang on, I know him.” Liv remarked: “Of course you do, I keep saying it was him that spilt his drink all over you.”

They overheard him asking the waitress: “Where’s Ben?” before adding: “When you see him, tell him he’s got a visitor.”

“Do you believe me know?” Liv asked Aaron, adding: “So much for being some random.”

Warren then starting hurling insults at Aaron, who was about to respond when Ben turned up.

“Aaron, don’t!” He yelled. Warren remarked: “Nice, at least now I know what you’ve been getting up to, this is why you moved out?”

“Why do you have to do this? Why do you have to come here and ruin everything?” An emotional Ben replied.

Aaron initially assumed Warren was Ben’s secret boyfriend, until he admitted he was his father.

“You need to sort my tab,” Warren ordered Ben, who responded: “I’m sorting nothing.”

Warren slurred: “So first you abandon me then you won’t buy my drinks?”

Ben accused him of being there just to show him up.

He then demanded more money off Ben before asking Aaron to fight him.

Warren began throwing homophobic abuse at the pair before stumbling to the floor.

In upcoming episodes, Ben is torn over his dad’s emotionally-blackmailing texts.

Aaron urges him to delete them and focus on himself, and, fighting his despair, Ben complies.

He later apologises to Liv for lying to her about his connection to Warren.

Witnessing his distress, she’s uncomfortable, finding it all too close for comfort.

When Aaron catches up with him later at work, Ben agrees he needs to collect the rest of his belongings from his dad’s house, but he declines Aaron’s offer to move into Mill, explaining he can’t live with another alcoholic.

Forced to accept Ben’s decision, Aaron’s angry at Liv for ruining things.

Arriving back home to find Liv drinking vodka again, Aaron’s anger rises as he blames her for Ben’s refusal to move in.

Drunk and in denial, Liv jibes the real reason is Ben isn’t really that into him.

This leaves Aaron furious and set to explode, how will he respond?

The siblings have a turbulent relationship, and often come to blows.

But this time, it seems Aaron really has been pushed to his limit, and now that he knows Ben isn’t hiding anything from him, he won’t want to jeopardise the relationship by being unable to support him.

Fearing for Ben and raging at Liv, Aaron could kick her out of the house.

But with an unsupportive mother, where could Liv turn to? She may well end up on the streets, but will Aaron come to his senses and find her before something happens?

Emmerdale continues on Monday at 7pm on ITV.
