EastEnders viewers left sobbing after traumatised Ruby Allen tries to shrug off rape horror and Martin's mates laugh about their night of sex

Fans of the show praised Louis Lytton for her moving performance as rape victim Ruby told Stacey about her ordeal at the hands of Martin's old school friends Matt and Ross.

After a night out at Martin's school reunion, Ruby –  played by recently returned star Louisa, 29 -goes to a house party with his mates to carry on the fun.

She ends up in bed with his pal Ross, later admitted she felt like she had to sleep with him because she "owed him".

Ruby was later attacked by another one of Martin's mates, Matt, who sneaked into the bed with her.

Most of the episode showed Ruby seeming confused about what happened, but she finally told Stacey what happened at the end.

At the same time, Martin's mates were seen having

She said: "I felt like I owed him [Ross].. afterwards I just laid there – another c*** one to chalk up to experience."

Her confession came as Ross was seen telling Martin: "If she hadn't like it, she would have said stop – it was two adults having a good time."

Ruby went on: "I turned over and I must have passed out.

"I was confused, I didn't know where I was. I felt this hand – I thought it was Ross… It was Matt.

"He had this look in his eyes that blokes get. I could 't move, I didn't do anything I just laid there. I shouldn't have gone back there. I shouldn't have drunk so much. I didn't say no."

Matt was then seen telling his friends: "I hoped she liked it was I a bit out of practise. I really like her."

Viewers were horrified by the "realistic" scenes and many were left in floods of tears over Louisa's stunning performance.

One tweeted: "Like it or not, the rape storyline will remind a lot of women scenarios they have been in and felt incredible guilt about. They've done it well #Eastenders #ruby storyline."

A third added: "@louisalytton your acting was off the scale tonight. So glad to see @bbceastenders raising awareness of this #EastEnders."
