EastEnders spoilers: Ricky Butcher’s return revealed after Tiffany clue?

Eastenders wasn’t short of drama in tonight’s instalment, as Tiffany Butcher (played by Maisie Smith) and Keegan Baker (Zack Morris) fled against the wishes of their family to marry. However, many fans noticed a strange similarity between Tiffany’s wedding, and that of her dad Ricky.

Tiffany’s dad Ricky (Sid Owen) drove off to Scotland with Sam Mitchell (Danniella Westbrook) back in 1991, as eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the storyline appeared to be “history repeating itself,” as Tiffany headed up to Scotland with her fiancée.

The pair wed at just 16, the same age as Tiffany and Keegan are in the soap.

One viewer shared: “Don’t think we’re far away from Sam and ricky eloping to Gretna green just as tiff and keegan are about to do the same thing #Eastenders #ClassicEastenders.”

Another echoed: “Haven’t the BBC writers got any original ideas instead of repeating Ricky Butcher and Sam Mitchell’s underage wedding but with his daughter and Keegan? Or for that matter Steve Owen’s death (as will happen next week? #EastEnders

“Just caught up with last night’s @bbceastenders Isn’t history repeating itself? Ricky and Sam?  #EastEnders,” noted a third.

Another asked: “Didn’t Ricky butcher and sam mitchell go to Scotland to get married years ago #EastEnders

Sam and Ricky remained married for just a year after they clashed over their different lifestyles, and Sam had an affair leading to her eventually ending her marriage and leaving Walford.

Ricky was last seen on the soap back in 2012, and is currently living in Germany with Tiffany’s brother Liam (James Forde) and his girlfriend Cindy Beale (Mimi Keene).

Some viewers hoped that tonight might signal a surprise return for the teen’s dad, as he might have wanted to prevent him suffering the same fate.

One shared: “Imagine a surprise Ricky return now turning up to the wedding. #EastEnders.”

“I keep expecting Ricky to walk through them doors and I keep disappointing myself #eastenders,” added another.

This evening’s instalment also signalled a possible return of Bianca Butcher (Patsy Palmer), who is sure to be angered by her daughter’s decision to marry.

As the registrar asked the guests if there was any reason why the pair should not marry, Sonia Fowler’s (Natalie Cassidy) phone rang.

Bianca was on the line and as Sonia rejected it, viewers were left amused by the “great timing” of her call.

One shared: “The irony when Bianca rang at that moment #eastenders.”

“Of course Bianca calls at the exact time that daunting question is asked, Classic. #EastEnders,” tweeted another.

The pair’s respective families decided to approve of their plan to get married, and supported their wishes.

However, viewers believed that this could signal an imminent return from Bianca, and this would be far from her only issue to address.

Bad-boy Leo King’s (Tom Wells) blossoming relationship with her daughter Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) will be an even greater cause for concern.
