EastEnders icon Samantha Womack makes subtle dig at BBC soap on Loose Women

Samantha Womack made a subtle dig at EastEnders whilst appearing on ITV’s Loose Women.

The actress was controversially axed from the BBC Soap after playing the character of Ronnie Mitchell since 2007 and she’s now making a return to the industry.

The 49-year-old actress is preparing to make her comeback as Jadis, the White Witch in a touring production of The Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe.

And when Samantha was invited onto the daytime panel programme to promote the theatre show, she couldn’t help but make a dig at the way EastEnders is made.

When asked by anchor Charlene White how she feels returning to the stage, Samantha compared the theatre to the ways of chaotic filming of the London-themed soap.

She explained: “Being on stage feels very gentle feels like you know, you've got the audience there. You're in control of your performance. You're doing the story chronologically. So yeah, it’s very exciting.”

And it also appears the former Eurovision singer isn’t quite over the gruelling burns that comes from showbiz, especially after taking time out during the pandemic.

Explaining her nerves, Samantha revealed: “I'm still I'm still kind of reeling from having been at home for two years and going back into the industry is actually harder for me than coming out. It's like it was quite a shock to the system really.”

When panelist Katie Piper asked if there was ever a chance for her to make a "magical" return to the soap, Samantha played coy, explaining: “I dunno, I say you get old enough you say never to anything. It’s an age thing, you never have an opinion because you're always proved wrong at some stage.”

However despite the bruising ending to her time on Albert Square, the blonde bombshell was full of praise for her old storylines and colleagues.

Samantha went on to add: “She was an amazing character, great storylines, some of the best work I think I did was back in the early days, the baby swap and with Barbara and Larry Lamb.”

The panel went on to discuss several fan theories for ways in which the character of Ronnie Mitchell could make a return and the star did catch wind of one in particular.

After dismissing theories involving being on the run from drug barons in Ibiza as well as liver transplants, Samantha’s ears pricked when Charlene suggested long-suffering funeral director Billy Mitchell may have been of assistance to the fan-favourite sisters.

Charlene suggested: “Billy Mitchell may have helped them fake their own death as he worked in funeral directors at the time and handled very different bodies.”

Samantha replied: "It’s believable… it could happen.”

Meanwhile the actress had other ideas how she might make a different return.

Samantha suggested: “I could come back as a poisonous twin, couldn’t I. Like a twin sister, like a different accent and with different colour hair. I could come back as a Scot!”
