Eamonn Holmes defends Rylan Clark as he feuds with troll who accuses him of pulling 'sickies' following mystery illness

EAMONN Holmes has defended pal Rylan Clark after a nasty troll accused the host of "pulling sickies" after he was hospitalisedfollowing a mystery illness.

The 62-year-old replied to a tweet originally shared by a nasty Twitter user, which has since been deleted, that claimed they were growing "weary" of Rylan's sick leave.

The tweet read: "Never been a fan of @EamonnHolmes but sadly our TV and radio shows are loaded with presenters like him, who openly admit to having no talent or opinions and wonder why they're in their well-paid jobs.

"At least @piersmorgan has an opinion. Also growing weary of @Rylan's 'sickies.'"

At first, Rylan, 33, responded to the tweet and wrote: "Sickies? I was ill?" then Eamonn jumped to his friend's defence.

The broadcaster replied: "Rylan, I was going to challenge this stupid ignoramus… decided not to but because he has annoyed you he has annoyed me more.

"I know how truly ill you have been… I just hope he never catches one of your 'sickies'. Stay well my friend."

In response to Eamonn's tweet, Rylan posted a love heart emoji.

Rylan recently returned to television for The One Show alongside Alex Jones following his health scare.

Asking about his health, Alex asked: "How are you? People have been worried.

He replied: "You know me, I just love a little drama. I'm good now, thank you, I had a little bit of a dodgy time but I'm good."

When he first took time off due to an illness, he made sure to update fans with what was going on.

"Gone and got the flu – not surprised – and have been in bed for a couple of days," he wrote at the time.

A week later, he revealed that he was rushed to the hospital and was forced to miss his show again.

The presenter shared a snap from his hospital bed with a cannula in his arm, but didn't explain the mystery illness any further.

In 2021, the former Celebrity Big Brother winner took an extended break from the spotlight following the end of his marriage to ex-husband Dan Neal.

More recently, he reflected on the break-up in an interview with The Guardian, sharing that he was hospitalised at the height of his personal troubles.

Just yesterday, The Sun exclusively revealed that his former police officer husband Dan, 42, has joined Tinder.
