The latest series of the ITV show ended last night as footballer Jill Scott was crowned Queen of the Jungle beating fellow finalists Hollyoaks star Owen Warner and former Health Secretary Matt Hancock.  While Jill may have won over the hearts of the public, viewers shared what they believed to be Dec’s true feelings towards Matt following his departure from the show.

The popular series returned to its Australian roots for the first time in two years, following the COVID-19 pandemic.

It brought fans the usual daily dose of jungle antics and drama over the past three weeks, but was also met with controversy following the arrival of disgraced MP Matt, who joined the camp late alongside comedian Seann Walsh.

Fans of the show were left divided over the addition of Matt to this year’s cast, but despite being voted to do a handful of Bushtucker trials, he managed to bag himself a spot in the final, finishing third behind Owen and winner Jill.

As the former Health Secretary made his way out of camp, Dec and fellow host Ant McPartlin were on hand for the usual exit interview they do with each departing celebrity.

However, viewers couldn’t help but notice the unusual reception Matt faced compared to his fellow campmates.

Fans on Twitter were quick to expose hostile behaviour towards Matt during his final interview with the hosts.

@MandyH13x wrote: “Ant and Dec absolutely hate Matt Hancock. I can feel it through the screen.”

Another user, @AdamLea2 pointed out: “Ant & Dec gave every campmate who left the jungle a hug but when Matt Hancock left, they just shook his hand.”

Other users noticed Dec especially had an off demeanor towards the finalist. @BobbyKilometre wrote: “Enjoying Dec’s facial reactions and body language to Matt Hancock.”

@Blmaden said: “Couldn’t help but notice Dec couldn’t keep eye contact with Matt. He definitely doesn’t like him #ImACeleb.”

As the MP made his exit along the jungle’s iconic bridge, he was greeted by aide-turned-girlfriend Gina Coladangelo.

As the pair embraced, viewers continued sharing their observations as @MandyH13x also wrote: “Dec’s face after the camera cut back to them when Matt met Gina on the bridge. He couldn’t hide his disgust. #ImACelebrity #ImACeleb.”

Last year Matt was forced to resign as Health Secretary after leaked CCTV footage revealed his affair with Gina.

The footage, which showed the pair kissing, exposed him breaking the social distancing rules he had set for the country as Health Secretary.

Matt hoped his appearance on the ITV show would salvage his public image and while the controversial campmate divided opinions among viewers and fellow campmates alike, his popularity was enough to get him a spot in the final.

Matt finished third, behind runner up Owen, but it was Lioness Jill who took home the win as Queen of the Jungle, relinquishing the crown from last year’s winner, Emmerdale actor Danny Miller.

The 35-year-old footballer was ‘speechless’ following the announcement of her win, telling Ant and Dec: “I can’t believe it,” after they revealed she and Owen had received over 12 million votes from the public.

Jill has walked away with the crown after winning over the hearts of the nation during her time on the show.

Her sense of humour and relatable personality made her a fan favourite from the offset.
