Corrie’s Rita Tanner left fearing for her life as evil kidnapper returns

Rita Tanner will be left fearing the worst when evil loan shark Rick Neelan returns to Coronation Street.

The nasty thug, played by Greg Wood, kidnapped Rita on her wedding day back in 2012.

Rick is set to return to the cobbles for a few months and will be terrorising the local residents.

A source told Digital Spy : "Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out who he’ll be targeting this time, but it’s safe to say that it’s never good news for the characters when Rick is around."

He first appeared in the soap back in November 2009 and was a loan shark who bought Tina McIntyre’s dad Joe’s debts worth £5,000.

Rick would often use nasty methods to get extra money out of his debtors and threaten them with violence.

He took Joe’s van as payment but said that he would need more, even though the van was worth more than the debt.

After Rick threatened to hurt Tina, Joe managed to get fiancee Gail Platt to sell 8 Coronation Street Street in order to get the money.

Joe later disappeared after going on holiday to the Lake District, but it later emerged that he had died. The police interrogated Rick but were satisfied that he was not involved in the death.

Rick returned to Weatherfield in 2012 after Terry Duckworth owed him £20,000 but son Tommy paid half of it and thought he had cleared the debt.

Tommy and girlfriend Tina were shocked to discover that that wasn’t the case and that £9,000 was still owed.

When Tommy’s dad Terry left the cobbles the debt was passed on to him and he was forced to do a number of dodgy jobs.

Tina was furious after discovering that he had ordered Tommy to smuggle drugs into Amsterdam and ended up stealing the drugs.

A raging Rick then kidnapped Rita on her wedding day to force Tina to give the drugs back.

However the police arrived during the stand-off and Rick was arrested and was looking at an eight-year jail sentence.

Seven years on, it looks like he’s finally been released… and we doubt anyone will be happy to see him back.
