Corrie fans gobsmacked as Piers Morgan lookalike joins cast as businessman

Coronation Street fans were left doing a double-take on Friday evening, convinced Piers Morgan had swapped presenting for acting following his GMB exit.

A newcomer with a strong Welsh accent appeared in Weatherfield, hoping to buy the Rover's Return pub after Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) placed it on the market.

Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) gave him a guided tour of the property, but she managed to create a terrible stench in the back room, leaving the businessman gasping for fresh air.

At first, she claimed the bad smell was caused by dirty nappies and unclean customers, but she later alleged the property was built on top of an open sewer.

The prospective buyer was disgusted and made it clear he was pulling his offer on the legendary boozer.

However, watching the scene play out, viewers were more distracted by his looks, as they insisted the actor was the spitting image of TV personality Piers.

Though the man's face was obscured by a mask, his eyes, hair and general appearance had fans doing a double-take, before taking to Twitter to weigh in on the uncanny resemblance.

One fan wrote: "OMG – Piers Morgan is buying the Rovers…& he's got a Welsh accent…who knew? #Corrie."

"Has Piers Morgan taken up acting?," added a second, and a third penned: "Is that a welsh Piers Morgan?"

This isn't the first time Piers' name has cropped up in the Corrie Twitter feed – just last month, the scriptwriters took aim at the ex-GMB star in a Roy Cropper scene.

Roy, played by David Neilson, had a heart to heart with the late Seb Franklin in the cafe, asking him to take things slower with his niece Nina Lucas.

"May I be candid with you?" he enquired, moving to sit down opposite Seb.
