Colton Underwood Is All For Pre-'Bachelor In Paradise' Hookups

Colton Underwood knows a thing or two about the Bachelor franchise. He began as a contestant on Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette and, from there, went on to be a contestant on Bachelor In Paradise and, ultimately, star as The Bachelor.

When Underwood entered the beach during his time on Bachelor In Paradise, it was evident that he and Tia Booth had history. When he was on The Bachelorette, Booth told Kufrin that, essentially, she had feelings for Underwood and viewers surmised that it’s, partially, what got him sent home.

Colton Underwood thinks contestants meeting up before ‘Bachelor In Paradise’ just adds ‘more drama’

On the most recent season of Bachelor In Paradise, many of the contestants came to the beach this summer having hung out or hooked up prior to the show. It’s something that, historically, has been frowned upon. But for whatever reason, this season revolved around a heaping dose of off-camera drama.

As far as Underwood’s concerned, relationships and hookups that occur off-screen only add to the drama.

“It definitely adds a different dynamic to [the show], and it definitely does add a little more drama,” Underwood told Yahoo Lifestyle. “But as long as people’s intentions and the reasons of linking up or connecting before are pure, then there’s no problem with it.”

To say paradise was rough for me is an understatement. I have no one to blame but myself for that. It’s not easy putting yourself and all of your mistakes out there for the world to see. No matter the differences all of us had on that beach, I will always have respect for each and every one of you, being brave enough to be yourselves and chase the love we all feel we deserve. Never forget that we are all human and not characters on television. I want to thank those of you that have sent me kind words and encouraging messages. Those have helped more than you will ever know. I hope that this is not the end of my story and I can look back at this summer and be grateful for the lessons learned and the friends made #bekind #imstillnotgonnastopdancing #imstillgoingtostagecoach

Speaking of pure intentions, Underwood also spoke to Yahoo about how he felt he was cheating on his season winner and current girlfriend Cassie Radolph as his season of The Bachelor progressed.

“You have to go along with the show. That was what got hard for me. I almost got to a point where I felt like I was cheating on Cassie. So I just couldn’t keep doing it anymore. And then I jumped a fence to get away…” he said.

Underwood went on to give this peice of advice to future Bachelors:

“But I think as long as they stay true to their feelings and they really just trust their gut and trust their heart […] they won’t have to try to trick producers or anything. They really just have their feelings and their truth.”

Ultimately, Underwood tells future Bachelors to listen to their guts–chemistry should play a big role in their decisions.

“You’re narrowing it down, you have to do your homework, you have to put the work in,” Underwood said. “But to be honest with you, it all comes down to chemistry.”

Colton and Cassie are still taking their time

As for Underwood and Randolph, they’re still going at their own pace. It’s typical for Bachelor/ettes to get engaged to their final rose recipient at the end of their season, but as Bachelor fans will surely not soon forget, Underwood defiantly removed himself from the show’s classic protocol to go at a pace Randolph felt most comfortable with for their relationship.

“I don’t think you realize how many important steps you miss in the Bachelor process, which is nothing against them. We want to make sure we do this the right way. Statistically speaking, for Bachelors, it’s not very good odds, so I think us going against what other Bachelor and Bachelorette couples have done is probably going to work out in our favor,” Underwood told Extra.

For them, that means not rushing into moving in together or getting engaged anytime soon.
