So there we have it, The Circle has finally drawn to a close. Yes, the addictive, entertaining and mildly-frightening lovechild of Big Brother and Black Mirror has announced its winner.
And, for all intents and purposes, The Circle‘s experiment was kind of ruined by the result.
Not before airing the four finalists’ incredibly awkward first meeting, Monday night’s (October 8) live final of the groundbreaking reality series confirmed its champion.
Beating Dan, Freddie and Sian to the top spot, Kate (who is actually Alex) was voted The Circle‘s official winner by his fellow players, bagging himself £50,000.
And if that wasn’t enough of a shock, Alex also went on to win the surprise viewers’ vote, taking home an additional £25,000 in the process.
Alex, who had been using his real-life girlfriend Millie as inspiration for his online persona, was completely stunned by his double win – and so were the fans (and Fiji the turtle).
Although many were thrilled for Alex because of his spectacular game-playing, some wondered whether his victory had undermined the so-called ‘moral’ of the Channel 4 series.
The best way to win a TV show and a shedload of cash? Why, lie to everyone and pretend to be someone else, of course!
The Circle aired on Channel 4.
