Billions season seven’s debut episode finished with a title card tribute. So who is Charles Koppelman and what did he have to do with the award-winning drama?
The Showtime and Sky Atlantic drama Billions returned after more than a year away from the small screen for its seventh outing last week.
While there were various unexpected twists in the initial episode, the instalment finished with a title card which also caught fans’ attention.
Who is Charles Koppelman?
Charles Koppelman was the father of Billions co-creator and executive producer Brian Koppelman.
He also worked as a musician and music producer and even though he wasn’t an actor professionally, Charles did appear as Cameron Stoldt in the season three premiere of Billions.

Charles had three children with his first wife Brenda ‘Bunny’ Koppelman.
After Bunny died of pancreatic cancer in 2008, he married Gerri Kyhill in October 2011.
Charles died on November 25, 2022 at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer in New York.
Taking to Facebook to announce his death, his daughter Jennifer said: “With a very heavy heart, we want to share that our beloved father, Pop-Pop, and best friend Charles Koppelman passed away peacefully earlier today surrounded by his entire family.
“His larger-than-life presence will be with us forever.”

He started his music career as part of the group The Ivy Three and later became part of the songwriting team at Aldon Music with his bandmate Don Rubin.
Charles then became the director of Screen Gems/Columbia Music once Aldon merged with Columbia Pictures.
Koppleman and Rubin went on to establish the entertainment company Koppelman/Rubin Associates.
He went on to join CBS Records in the early 1970s and signed on acts like Phoebe Snow, Mason, Journey and Billy Joel.
After selling SBK Entertainment to EMI Records for a whopping $300 million, with Koppelman and Bandler collaborating with EMI Music to set up SBK Records.
The former went on to establish CAK Entertainment Inc and previously worked closely with big artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine.
Billions season seven is available to watch every Friday on Sky Atlantic, as well as Paramount+ and NOW.
